Wondering if anyone has had experience with the 2X6 variable
simmons prohunter on a 454 casull handgun? Will it take the recoil? etc. Thanks

Regarding Simmons in general, unless they've REALLY changed, I'd never have another one. I had one on a 30-06 years ago and the reticles fell apart in the scope at the range. Others may have other experience but that's mine.

Simmons once made a "Gold Medal" variable, now that was a quality scope. The Prohunter is really not made that well. Try a Bushnell Elite or the Nikon Encore variables.

I'm running a Simmons prohunter 4X32 on my Ruger SHR 454 Casull, and I would suggest getting another scope. Nothing but issues, a few rounds in and something internal went. The elevation will not stay in place unless its bottomed out, and even then I'm hitting 2" high from a rest at 30 yards. Think I'll be running open sights this season.

Sorry to hear all the bad luck.

I have a Simmons Prohunter 2x6 that has been great for me.
It was on a 454 casull Encore barrel, and is now on my 7 08 barrel. I traded the 454 barrel off, but put a box through it first with no issues.

Last fall I shot a buck at 300yrds using that scope on my 15 inch 7 08 barrel, and it worked great. I would like more Xs, but at 300 can keep all shots on a paper plate if I have a good rest.

It has been a great scope for me, but given the others experiences, I probly would get something else for your 454. It looks like I may have just got lucky with mine.

Thanks
MN

I have a 4x on a 14" 357 Max barrel and has held up well. I know the 454 has more recoil than the Max. I would not feel comfortable placing that scope on a 454.

I use a 4X Simmons on a 7-30 Waters and a Ruger .22 MK I and like them. My 629 and Super Blackhawk .44's have Simmons 2X's and they have worked for years. I did , however mount a Leupold 4X on my XP-100 .308 because I feared that the Simmons would not withstand the recoil. My Super Redhawk .454 wears a Leupold 2X because I figured the recoil would eat a cheap scope.

BUMMER I just put one on my .308 Striker, hope it lasts for awhile. So far only 8 rds. Threw it. Live and learn!

I've been using them ( Simmons scopes) since the early ninties and have no complaints. One 4x has been on my .47-70 barrel for over 4yrs now, digested a couple hundred rounds so far w/o a problem.

I used a Prohunter 2x6 on my 7/08 and now use it on a 7TC. Have had no problems in 3 years of use. On some really hard recoiling guns, even the best won't hold up.

You just never know, last year I bought 2 Burris 2-7 ballistic plex scopes, 1 for my 357 max barrel and 1 for my 460 barrel. The scope on the max lasted 40 shots, the scope on the 460 lasted 70 shots, figure that one out.

I have used the simmons this year on a 475L with no issues and a few hundred rounds.

I am running the Simmons Pro Hunter 4X on my .30/06 Encore. So far I have put 50+ rounds through it with no issues.
