here's you a cheap way to start picked up the musical powerhorn at radio shack today. it has an internal amplifier and a 1/8" jack in the rear. plug her into your cd player and start playin some rabbit tunes. .....and make the coyotes dance!

Ya know KYODE my wife has one of them walk around disc things. There is a radio shack in the next town, I might just have to put one of them things together.

Last Friday night I left work after dark, just as I closed the door the coyotes were howling like crazy down across the hay field. I stood there for at least 3 minutes listening to them. It sounded like at least 5 or 6. Really gave me the urge to run home and get a pistol.

Hmmmm....

Maybe I need to invest in a 2-2-3 barrel. Our deer lease is downright infested with coyotes. Your system may be a good way to get started. - KL

Cass Creek call and speaker - $37, speaker $17.

Cabela's Cass Creek page

If you have a walkman CD or tape player, the speaker and a $10 Jonny Stewart tape makes for dead coyotes.

BTW, unless you are going to save the fur, use what you use for deer for a bit of extra practice - unless of course you need a reason to get a new barrel (17 CF and up).

Small size (say 2 boxes of shotgun shells in length), 25 FEET away (makes it MUCH easier to get the shot - mr coyote ain't looking at you), and the volume control is at your side.

YES, our hunting area is infested beyond reason - one grouse and 0 rabbits seen the last 2 years COMBINED, dropping deer numbers, tracks look like expressways, etc, etc.

Some of use are going to team calling 1 rifle and 1 shotgun OR 2 rifles facing each direction. Not that we are trying to thin the packs or anything. Yes, it is long guns only we want the least possible chance of missing any chance presented.

it cost $39.99 + tax and i also bought a 6' cord with inline volume control to plug between the cd player and horn.
it is actually a programable power horn that plays multiple tunes you select(dixie, etc) , or it works as a mega phone. it takes 8 AA batteries.

the reason for this horn is that it contains an internal amplifier, and has a female plug in the back you can plug into.

used it this morning, and it works fine for short to medium range. i could actually hear it echoing down a long holler (hollow ) only problem was the coyote. they were not cooperating. thought the horn sounded good though. i played it with the cd player shown, and a rabbit distress cd.
larryinsd had a good idea of putting a decoy on the handle. sumthin like a teddy bear/rabbit.

i'd be tempted to sell it reasonable if anyone was interested. i've thought about upgrading further.
