Fired the above group at the range with my SSK 15" bbl chambered in 307 Win Improved.

Almost sold it due to cost of custom dies. Still don't have dies but a Lee 308'Collet die works to load fired cases.

Guess I'll have to order dies now...

Rog

I'd like to see a photo of the round please. Can't remember what a 307 looks like. Show us the shooter too please!!!

Left is 308, middle is 307 Imp, right is 30-280 AI.

Ernie is correct: 308 Imp with a rim, except my 307 Imp will not firform factory 308 ammo. I did one round and the case separated due to excessive headspace.

Based on my measurements, this 307 Imp has been "improved" more than the standard 308 Improved.

Bullet I shot in the target pic is the C-T 150 BST.

Just a standard run of the mill T/C Encore Pro Hunter with a STD taper SSK 15" bbl, Bushnell 2x-6x scope.

How does that compare with their 309 JDJ?

esoxman50, the 309 JDJ is based on the 444 Marlin case full length and is loaded to pressures that are compatible for the Contender.

JDJones claims that the 309 JDJ will do 165's @ 2400 fps from 14" bbls (I don't know, never owned one...).

The 307 Win Improved I have was made by SSK from a customer supplied reamer. It will out run the 309 JDJ simply because it can be loaded to higher pressure in the Encore.

However, there are some very very similar rounds chamber in Contender barrels such as the 30 Alaskan Bower, and perhaps others. Again, these rounds in the Contender have to be loaded to lower pressure than what can be loaded to in the Encore.

Ballistically, my 307 W.Imp. is pretty close to the std 308 Win.

Rog

The 309 nor any other round suitable for contenders will provide the velocity of an "encore" round. Pressures are very different.

However, I do own a 309 JDJ. One can get a little over 2400 with a 165 gr bullet from a 14" barrel.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

wtroper that's good to know. I've always liked the 309 JDJ.

Seams my 307 W.Imp. "weatherby" bloodlines...

The neck/shoulder area appears to have a radius...

Left is 301280 AI, right is 307 Imp.
