For small game hunting such as Squirrels, what is your ammo of choice(brand, hollow point or solid)? Survey says!!!

Whatever shoots accurately in the gun I'm using. Then I file the noses flat with a Hanned SBG tool. You can't get that tool anymore, but you can get the Paco ATS tool or Accurizer tool that will flatten or hollow point .22 bullets here: http://www.pacotools.com/

I'm sold on using the flat nose .22 ammo on squirrels. They don't crawl away to die in the nest or on a tree limb like with some .22 hollow points.

If you're hunting with a .22 revolver, pick your .22 ammo based on bullet diameter. There is a lot of varience here and revolver throats can be on the large side. Most of your bulk .22 ammo is small to work in semi-autos without jamming. I like CCI Blaser in my Single Six Bisley. Some old Eley High Velocity stuff I have shoots really well and packs some serious punch, but I can't find it around here anymore and it's expensive now.

My Ruger MKII shoots about anything very well, so I usually just use Remington Golden Bullets that have been flattened.

Be careful if you use standard velocity or subsonic ammo in a handgun with a short barrel. Some struggles to break 700fps from my 5.5" MKII. Hardly a good choice for killing stuff. When the barrel reaches 15" or so, things change and the ammo will kill just fine trucking along at around 1000fps with a flat nose.

Remington Subsonic ammo is my favorite for small game. Excellent performance at handgun velocities and very accurate. I've used it in revolvers, semi-autos and single shot handguns on squirrels, grouse, rabbits and porcupines and never had a single problem with it.

Any of them work if you hit'em in the head, so I'm shooting Federal cheapies from Wally World.

CCI mini mags are what my Henry likes and if I'm killing critters it gets first call. I shoot the HP's, and my best kill with it was a possum around 100yds, one shot and he was done. For general plinking I shoot the Federal HPs but they have an almost identical poi to the CCI's. I shot a 5" 15rd group at 100yds using iron sights on my henry so the cheapie feds also shoot pretty darn good but for hunting I go back to the CCI's.

Maybe I just lucked out but my 12" Bullberry / Contender barrel really likes Federal cheapies. A couple of weeks ago I sighted in at 100 yds, the last four groups(3 shot) averaged just over .9. I was shooting over a Bower rest using a 2.5"+ wide flat forend and a 4-14 Burris rifle scope

Exactly what I do. The Mark II's like CCI Minie Mag hollow points.
Fed bulk has the least failures, WW and Rem are the worst. Many failures to fire but they go off if the shell is rotated. Seems as if priming compound is not all the way around. Lots or squib loads too with just a pop.
The very most accurate from my Mark II slab side are RWS Target.
I put 9 in one hole and screwed up the last because I could not believe what they were doing. 25 yards from a rest.

I haven't found any thing as effective or accurate as the Aguila Super Extra 38gr hp. I believe they use a softer lead than most and the wound is superior to Winchester, CCI, etc. that I have tried. For hunting small game it's the only ammo I use.

Winchester Power Points are my go to ammo in a handgun.Work real well in S & W Mod.17. Single Sixes are difficult because of the larger bore, just have to try different ammo. One more excuse to go shooting
