Impressive! Looks like the muzzle brake works great.

That's a big hammer with the .458 Win Mag...

I also took a peek at the 45/70 video. Handload, I imagine? Looks like it almost caught some forehead in the first video!

On the BFR video:

The angle I was standing in relationship to my buddy (videoing) makes it look like it was closer than it was.
Yes a handload with H4198 and a 550 gr NEI GC bullet that is close to a copy of the Lyman bullet they use to sell molds for that weighed 540 gr.
The second video was my good friend shooting it. He has several pounds on me and was holding it with a death grip.
That load will shoot well if you have the mind over recoil thing going on.

What load are you using in the 458, I'm using 80gr of H322 with the 350gr speer which is giving me an avg velocity of 2363 and an extreme spread of 6fps. I'm also curious because mine is a beast but it dosn't back me up or rise more than a few inches but then again I may have some size on you. I'm going to start building them on Bergara rifle barrels to give it a bull barrel and with the muzzle loader forend which it calls for it should tame it even more. I've got another pistol barrel that is getting taken out to the Lott. Definitely very cool and seeing you shoot yours helps encourage me on being able to sell mine when they are done. Definitely a feeling of extreme power isn't it. I was also curious about your barrel length, it looks shorter than mine, I'm keeping the full 15" and then 2" more for the brake.

I rarely shoot a light bullet. I have gotten over 2500 with a 300 gr Barnes X-Bullet from mine though using H4198.
The load I was using is 61.0 gr of H4895 and a Winchester LR std primer.
The bullet I use is an old NEI design that mimics the Lyman 462540 I think is the number.
The bullet is seated to roughly .631 inches into the case. The bullet lenght is 1.343 inches oAL This gives roughly 66 gr water capacity in Winchester cases.
I am maybe today try a few with the bullet seats out and see what the loads chrono with an increase in charge weight.
For those that like to play with such things a 550 gr pushed to 1700 has the momentum equal to a 350 pushed to 2670 fps.
The load I am using has brute power. Maybe not high velocity but brute power nonetheless. Kinda like a D9 CAT vs a funny car.
I use WW water quenched sized to .460'
I weigh 225 but I don't us a death grip. I take all the recoil with my strong hand and just support some of the gun weight with my weak hand. No mashed fingers.
My barrel is 14 inches
BTW my load is not max. Could go up some but 550 at 1700 or so from 14 inches is plenty.

550@1700 is definitely serious, I'm loading the 350's as an elk stopper although that bullet is designed for the 458 and will stop anything in north america. I'll do some work with 500 gr solids and 400-450gr sp's eventually but I doubt I'll be going to africa anytime soon so the 500's will be just so I have a base line performance level.

I've shot the 500 gr Hornady's quite a bit and still love H4895 for them. Using Win brass and CCI 250 primers. The Hodgdon loading for that bullet went up to 74 grs. That ran slightly over 2000 fps. I have settled on 72 gr as tops. That will still do mid to high 1900's.
It is hard to find a bad powder for the 458 Win Mag. Another powder I have used quite a bit is AA2460. I had 2 different lots and chronoed back to back with the same brass, bullets and primers the average was 90 fps different. So watch yourt lots with Accurate Arms powders in that cartridge.
The reason I used the 550 gr is that is the only heavy bullet I have that takes a gas check and Randy Garretts 540 gr load in the 45/70 runs 15-1550 from a 22 inch barreled Marlin and I wanted to exceed it in 14 inches. I did so.
Also a 350 gr bullet is more than enough but I like bullets that befits the caliber. I don't like 180' or 200's in a 44 or 45 Colt except for personal defense.. The sectional density of a 350 gr 458 bullet is the same as a 160 30 caliber bullet and I wouldn't use that weight in a 30 caliber. 180's is what I would use.
Of course I am off center myself so one cannot pay much attention to me.
A 400 gr to me is just beginning to enter the picture for me.
BTW a guy I know shot a whitetail with a 350 gr Hornady, I believe, or it could have been a Speer, I forget now and said it put a football sized hole in it. I never saw the deer so can't speak as to the veracity of his statement. He was using a 13 inch 458 Encore I do know that.

I think that would get down to those ground moles in my yard.
