Someone told me you can kill turkey with .410 shot out of a contender. I have a 14" 45/410 barrel and 3" #4 shot. Is it possible to cleanly take a turkey with this combination? Anyone have experience and/advice? And yes, it is legal where I live to use a handgun with shot no larger than #2 and no smaller than #8. Thanks!

been trying with my encore also. needs to be close, really close. don't expect to shoot more than 15 yards. a red dot can be mounted and will also help center the little bit of shot they throw. but kill one. sure will
what state you in. sounds like ny has the same laws

I live in Niagara County in Western NY. How do you mount a red dot on this barrel?

IF I was going to try Turkey with 410, it would be #6 shot and real close.
What about law regarding hunting with a "pistol ' 410, but still a pistol?

Every state has different reg's, we can't use a pistol or a .410 shotgun but I would sure like to try. The 'Tender patterns pretty tight out to 15 yards or so, so a head shot is possible. Further is possible depending on teh barrel.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

It won't be easy to get that close but, can be done. Good luck.

I live in Niagara County in Western NY. How do you mount a red dot on this barrel? The rib is attached, or at least used to be, using the same holes as the sights. If you remove it you can install a Weaver 92A scope base and red dot.
Rod, too.

I killed a lot of squirrels and pigeons with my .410 T/C out to 35 yards. Turkey shouldn't be a problem that far with a head shot. My barrel shot #5s unbelievably tight.

Going out this afternoon. I believe I know where they are roosting and I can get in pretty close in cover. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all the comments and advice. This is a GREAT forum!

I had a very complete hunting article about handguns on turkeys for Handgun Hunter, but Gary never printed it. I've taken quite a few and pretty much have it figured out.
