Had an opportunity to shoot a little Sunday at our little range. I think that I have previously mentioned here that I "fell into" a FA 50AE a while back. I also acquired a Ruger Bisley 44 with a Magna-port conversion. I had not fired either until Sunday.

Both revolvers have only open sights & my eyes are not what they used to be. However, I attacked the project anyway.

Using factory 325 gr 50AE ammo and a six o'clock hold, the revolver was hitting the 1" bull at 25 yds. Thus, I moved out to the steel targets. I hit as well as I could expect to considering my eyesight. The recoil was surprising mild (did not seem as much as my 454s).

Then I picked up the customized Ruger. It is kinda pretty. If it had been sighted in, I have no idea what ammo was used. With factory 240s, it was about 12-14" high and 4" to the left at 25 yds. I finally was able to get it within reason & had a few rounds left in the box. It was pretty easy to hit a 6"x8" target at 65 yds with the remaining rounds.

The sights on the Ruger have a yellow insert in the front and a yellow outline around the rear notch. I am not sure if the coloring was bothering me or if my eyes were just tired, but the sights on it seems to fuzz much more easily than the flat black ones on the FA.

While I am still wondering why I wanted the 50AE, I was pleasantly surprised by it. That 1/2" bullet will swing the steel targets. (Actually, my friend in Ohio has several 50s (S&W & AK). I did not. Now, even though mine is a "baby 50," I have one too)

The Ruger is quite nice & shot OK. Probably would have shot much better for someone with better eyesight. Thinking that it might be a Christmas gift to a grandson.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Pics!

I am the world's worst photographer. But maybe I can get a couple up before I leave on Wed AM. Gotta go to Vegas for the PBR Finals. Tough job but someone has to do it. LOL

I have a friend who reminds me, "If I don't see pics, it didn't happen."

You're asking someone who says their eyes are not what they used to be to take pictures; this thread can only get better.
