I got back into Handguns this Fall. I will hunt Handgun only this Fall. I have a 35 Rem barrel for big game, and a 223 barrel for small game. The 35 Rem can handle the big game in my area, so I don't need anything bigger. What barrel do I need next? I would like the have a 6TCU, ( I have a few 6mm rifles, so I have all the bullets ). Also thinking about a 7-30 Waters. What do you think? Let me know what you like.

What do you intend to do with it?

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

The 7-30 Waters is a fine cartridge for deer sized game and longer range varmits. The 22 long rifle barrell is more fun just for practice and small game. Cheap to shoot and no recoil.

I think a 22LR is a must for any arsenal. Lots of cheap-er trigger time.

22LR may be one to looks at. I do alot of shooting at the range, clays, steel plates, targets all long range. The 6TCU would work great with a 10 to 8 twist. I shoot 6BR and 6BRX long range in rifles.

Ditto on the .22rf. Although with what you have I don't think I could turn down a good .17 HMR.

If, I was using a TC and had your cartridges, the 7x30 Waters would be my next barrel.

.30 herrett. Now that 6.8 spc brass is available, it is easier to make and will stay right on the waters heels. Just need to get a 6.8 extractor to make it work.

Nothing wrong with a 125gr NBT @ 2250fps from a 10" bbl! 14" adds 150fps.

Mine is for sale since I decided to go revolver only and quit the single shots.

with the 35rem there, i don't see a need for the waters myself, unless ya just want more "deer guns", or just to have fun with(nuttin wrong with that either).

adding a 22lr match barrel would be superb for squirrel hunting etc, if ya do that, or cheap, accurate target play.

a 6tcu, 6x45(6mm/.223), or 6x47(6mm/.222mag) would be a great target barrel, long range varmints, or for predator size game....coyote n such. added plus to have lottsa 6mm bullets around with multiple uses! i think the 6x47 is my favorite contender round.

22 long rifle match. Otherwise, a 38 special match grade barrel. Economical to shoot with lead bullets.

I am a 7-30 fan. I have seen two really big "red deer" stags killed with the little 120 gr factory bullet. It is a relatively mild round that does much more than is expected of it. Kinda like the 6.5 JDJ. Closest thing that I know of to the 6.5 JDJ that is in a factory loading.

I recommend the 7-30 to most all of my new handgun hunters. They have used it very successfully.

I would vote for a 6 TCU or a 6.8 SPC--

The 22LR has never been one of my favorites in the T/C--love shooting 22's just like the wheel guns and autos better.

If I am going to shoot the T/C I want it to go BOOM!

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I recommend the 7-30 for new handgun hunters. The recoil is light and its killing ability is amazing.

I was thing if I would go with the 7-30, I may sell the 35 rem. I will see how it works this fall. I with H20bug, I want more zip than a rimfire, for myself.

Kyode, I think any for the small 6mm would work great. I am also thinging of a 20 cal. The 20 VT ( 221 Firball necked down to 20 cal ) would be a good one also.
