Well I figure I may as well start gathering info on reloading for the .41 Mag...Im really impressed by the accuracy of the cast bullet reloads that came with the Contender. My casting experience is limited to only casting roundbals from pure lead, I have never poured hard cast bullets.
Which brings the question...what is a good source for commercial hard cast bullets? The reloads I had were definately heavy hunting rounds...very stout loads, and the bullets were very wide flat nosed type. Just going by the faint outline of the bullet base seated in the cases...they had to be in the 230-250 gr. range, as I could tell they were very long compared to the 175 gr. bullets in the Winchester Silvertip ammo I have. The Winchesters gave lousy accuracy by the way.
Im hooked on these heavy hard cast bullets and would like to try some when I finally gather all the goodies to reload.

Oh dear!!!!

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I use Win. 296 powder, Rem. case, Fed. large magnum pistol primers and a 210gr. Hornady XTP. I've never reloaded any cast bullets in my .41 but have shot the 265gr. LWFNGC load from Grizzly Ammo and it shot very well. This is the only heavy bullet load I've shot from my 41. Contender. The 210 XTP's have always worked for me so I stuck with them.

I shoot cast almost exclusively in mine (Contender and Blackhawk), a 202gr hp and a 215gr swc. I use 2400, Unique and recently have been working with HS-6. If I want heavier, I use my .44's or .45's.

I cast my own, but there are several companies that sell cast, just 'google .41 cast bullets' and you'll find seveal. My only personal experience has been with Cast Performance and Bushwacker. I prefer Cast Performance.

Looked up the Grizzly ammo...may have to give some of that a try until I get all the re-loading components gathered. X-mas is too close to start buyin re-loading stuff though.
I did luck out and find a set of Lee Carbide dies for the .41 Mag today after work though for $20...thats a good enough start for now. Also picked up a box of Speer Gold Dot 210 gr. Hunting ammo to try out this weekend hopefully.
