I have just recently purchased a used S@W PC 629 .44 Mag Hunter. I bought a Bushnell Elite 2X6 scope for it but have run into a prob with it that has me a stumped. Hoping someone on here my help me. It appears that the front of the scope will protrude beyond the muzzle of the barrel. It is a 6 inch barrel. It appears to me that the muzzle blast will smoke the scope. Is there someway to overcome this prob? The barrel has an integral Pic rail on it. Does anyone know if the rear sight can be removed and a weaver style base be attached such as a 629 without the pic rail?

Thanks,

Harry

I don't know for sure on that one but first thing to do is remove the rear sight and see if it has the tapped holes like the standard and classic 629's. Have you considered a smaller scope such as the Leupold or Nikon 2X fixed power? The 2-6x is a nice scope but kind of over kill for a 6" 44 if your shooting deer sized animals. The gun has a max reasonable range of about 100yds and optimum is 75 and under. Another option would be a red dot scope or reflex type sight.

NICE SMITH!!

Have you tried callin S&W?

"I" love those scopes! I have one on my 44 Mag in a SRH. It is nice being able to crank up the power when shooting small targets...

Like Rod said above, your Smith should be drilled and tapped under the rear sight for a scope mount that will hold your 2-6X away from the muzzle...
