For quite a time I've been wanting a S&W 629 and recently I have developed an interest in handgun hunting. Then today I came across a used, S&W model 629 Classic DX with 8 3/8" barrel and m8-4x Leupold scope. It's even engraved!
\:\)
When they told me they had the box and lowered their asking price by $100, I caved in. LOL

Came with the original box, 2 grips, original sight, and even the test target from Smith. Gotta rush out to buy a spotting scope and ammo.

If you were hunting with this, what holster would you use?

Sweet piece! Give Pistol Packaging a shout, I love their Bandito Belt rigs. They will make the holster to your gun's dimensions. Costs a little more than a C-note, great craftsmanship.

Rod, too.

Welcome Butch! I have one just like it except mine wears a Burris 2x. Mine is superbly accurate as I'm sure yours is too. Good luck.

A nice thing is that you can buy just one shoulder belt and swap out holsters for your different handguns.

Rod, too.

Another option is the Ringler Wyoming Combination Holster
Ringler Custom Leather

I have one for my scoped Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter and really like it. Makes it very comfortable to carry that big hand cannon all day long.

I am looking at buying and scoping that same gun in the coming weeks. What base and rings are those? I am planning on putting a 2x Burris or Nikon on mine.
Thanks,
Nate

You might want to check out Quiet Hide Holsters. Dave made one for my Super Redhawk that fits perfectly and as the name suggests, is extremely quiet. Congrats on the purchase...great looking handgun.

I use a very nice soft case with an old gym bag strap hooked at both ends.

Seems to work better for me

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

The rings and scope were on the gun when I bought it and the only marking I can find on the base/rings is the letter R inside of a circle with cross-hairs.

If that is a logo I'd like to know the maker as well. These look very sturdy.

I was unable to find any holster which looked better to than the Pistol Packing Bandito. Ordered mine today and added ammunition loops to the belt

You won't be disapointed. I also have the ammo loops on mine, real handy.

With today disregard for what is recommended on these forums, I bought some Fiocchi 240 grain ammo and tested my new revolver. Below are my best 50 and 100 yard groups. I'm a seasoned double action shooter but shot all these in single action, from a rest, and had never used a scope before. I look forward to running another 500 rounds through here and tightening up those groups.

My Bandito Belt Rig for the 629 arrived today. Very nice piece of work
\:\)
I do have a question about using it...

There is a small leather strap which looks like it's meant for retention. It has a 'button hole' in one end which I slipped over the hammer spur.

Is this how you use the piece I described?

Strap goes over hammer for retention. I use mine when done for the day. I have 3 Banditos, with removable scope flap. There is enough friction to hold the gun in without the strap as I am moving through the woods, crossing fence lines, climbing, ect. Awesome holster. Will never own a 'Nylon bucket' again
