They can be used in lead free areas.

And that is the only reason I could ever justify them.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Well HoggHunter,

Their right...the price is high? but so are the guns and scopes with hunt with so why skimp on ammo,JMO...$600 gun?/$400 scope? $100 mounts& rings? and $18 bullets...Really??---and have to be used in lead free area's... BUT IMO, for what its worth, I know some here will say different...But I mainly use Barnes Bullets in all my Calibers, I don't get out to hunt much as I used to and if I get a shot I want to make sure the bullet is gonna do its job!! I have killed too many Whitetail Deer to count and Bear and Hawgs other animals. I have never seen such damage that the Barnes does, and watch the shock it does as soon as it hits the animals. I have used most every bullet out and I must say Hornady XTP/SST, and Nosler BT/Part are Awesome. There are very few animals on the Planet that this bullet wont pass thru. (BTW I use single shot TC's so alot of my shots are long)

Other than the lead free area's, I can see one other use that would be beneficial. I would think most everybody knows you can get by with less weight per caliber, due to nearly all mono's having near 100% weight retention. With that, for some shooters where typical lead core weights, might be a bit much in the recoil department for a given caliber. Going with the lighter copper bullets may help, say for instance a small framed lady or yongster. Where just for sake of discussion, one normally uses a 180-200 gr in a 30cal for elk. With the copper, a 150 gr. would perform almost the same. Cost for me really don't matter if it fills a need or has purpose. Beyond that it pretty much just a personal decission. Most would think I'm a bit off keel too, for using Nosler Partitions in most everything except for varmint/target guns. Are they necessary all the time? No.
But I have all the confidence in them, and I figure their extra cost is small for the reliability they provide. Hunting ain't always as cheap as hunting out the back door, so I don't worry about the bullet/ammunition cost, with all else considered.

Its quite common with solid copper slugs to drop down one bullet weight & pick up additional velocity without fear of the bullet coming apart. I don't use single shots anymore but when I did I always dropped down a bullet weight with great success. With solid copper you need to keep the velocity up to work best. I used the 185 gr. Barnes X in Africa in my 338/284 on plains game & they worked great, probably wouldn't haven gotten my Black Wildebeest with anything else, lots of penetration!
