Can you load the 357 Maximum with 357 magnum dies or do you need maximun dies? I've had people tell me both are correct so I came to the experts for the real answer.

I use RCBS Max dies, but you can use Mag dies as well.
Rod, too.

Yes you can - I use Redding 357 mag dies (carbide) & their profile crimp die.

I use RCBS 357 mag dies, to load the max you need additional spacers due to the longer case. All I did was call RCBS and they took care of me. you are going to need a seater plug for pointed bullets, if they tell you they don't have one for the 357 max, just ask for a 35 rem plug and you will be all set. J.T. I'm guessing your dies are made for 357 mag. The RCBS dies I have are listed for 357 mag and max and do not require a spacer.

I can't speak to max specifically but I think it depends on the die set. I know some 45 LC sets will do the 454 but I had a set I tried and the sizing die would not take the full length of the 454. I bought a set of 454 LEE dies and the sizing die says 454 but the rest say 45LC.

I currently am using RCBS 357 sp/mag dies to load my 357 Max. It is shooting 1/2 groups at 100. This is in a Contender and I don't know if it would make a difference in a revolver or not. The main difference is that the mag dies are not going to resize the entire length of the mag case. In a single shot this is not a big deal…

Thank you all. I am loading for a contender; I picked up a 10" and a 14" barrel and am looking forward to trying them both. I've read that 180 grain bullets work the best, I will start there. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
