Hi Gary, last year you you wrote about working on a presentation for taking yo the Namibian Professional Hunting Association. Any feedback on whether they are likely to change the laws so as to allow handgun hunting? Love to book a trip if they do.

I spoke to officers in the NPHA at the African Sporting Expo in Charlotte in January. Many in the Association favor the change in the law, but it's the politicians and bureaucrats that will make the decision, not the PH's. The "best guess" of those I spoke to was "in a couple of years".
I spoke to several Namibian PH's there who would be delighted to guide handgun hunters now, if legally permitted.

I know but until their PH Assoc was in favor of it the politicians wouldn't even consider it.

Recently I asked NAPHA what is the status of handgun hunting in Namibia and prompt answer was:
"Handgun hunting will not be opened in 2012 in Namibia. We only this year started the negotiations with our Ministry in that regards and if the Ministry should approve of it the changes still have to be gazetted and that will not happen before 2013."
Since I am going in June '12 all my hopes sunk with this reply

Well that sounds like a good reason to go back in 2013.

Igor, what handguns do you have access to for hunting in your part of the world?

Handgun hunting is not allowed in many European countries, in Serbia as well. However, I can legaly transport handgun (only if decomposed to at least 2 parts or to be locked) to my favorite hunting farm. They practice commerial hunt (not a public land) and farm owner/guide allows me to use my weapon of choice (FA 7 1/2" .454 is my favorite). One guide, one hunter stalking and high stand
I usually hunt red deer, roe deer, boar and sometimes moufflon and fallow deer

Perfect.
I too have a FA 7 1/2" 454 casull. Awesome gun.

I am not in the market for an African safari at this point in my life, but have had the priviledge in getting to go to Tanzania on a photo safari, an have longed to go back and hunt since then. Its Africa really does get in your blood...

If Namibia opened up to handgun hunting, it would be one of my top choices for a safari. Hopefully they change it soon.
