My first year hunting with a handgun and been hunting hard,3 consecutive vary hard winters have the deer population way down.Ive been posting mostly in some vary good spots without seeing a thng except the doe I posted about earlier, while heading back to town Friday afternoon I was driving past a hardwood shelter belt when what to my wondering eyes should appear but a doe loping thru the trees going the other way.I bailed out got off the road and had about a 65 to 75 yard shot, found her in the reddot lead her abit and the round caught har at the base of the neck.My son also took a cell phone picture and said he would try to post it for me,if it doesnt work I told him just to send one to Rod.A 475L 325 xtp 31.5 gr of 296=very dead deer.

Off to a good start ! Way to go Dave !

Don't confuse shooting with hunting.
Shooting is a game, hunting is a sport.

I guess so! Congrat's.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Congrats Dave! Here's to the next, and the next, etc!

I was trying to break in my Linebaugh last night with a 325gr Speer over a similar dose of 296...with 3 does already in the freezer, the nannies I saw last evening got a free pass! But they were tempting...

Great shooting Dave, Congrats! I'm sure that you've posted about it and I should know this but what kind of 475LB do you have?

Darrel I have a bfr that is a very accurate good shooting gun,Ive also had a bfr 454 Cassul that shot so poorly I sent it off to Rod and he said He has gotten it to tighten up some,an action job and uniforming the throats for a very resonable price .He is just sending it back tomorrow.

looks like a buton buck.
Congratulations on hitting a running deer! I have only tried that 2 times and the score is deer 2, Greg 0. I decided that I have to wait until they stop to improve my odds!

Congrats. Can we officially say you are hooked now?

Dave,

I am living in ND also. I live in Grand Forks. I here you on the deer being way down. Looking for a place to hunt where I can just sit, everyone drives them out here in the east. It is my first handgun season with a Taurus .44 Raging Bull with a 8.38" barrel. Iron sights so far.
