I hunted the third rifle season in Colorado (2011) and killed this five by five bull with my custom Dixie Firearms .475 Linebaugh at 103 yards; my load was a 400 grain Hornady XTP moved along by 25.5 grains of H-110; I also managed to get it on film... For the story, please go to:

Nice job Gregg, hurry and approve his draft Gary I want the rest of the details! With as long as those mains are above the royals I'm surprise he hadn't forked into a 6x6.

Rod, I think you just want to see how many scratches he put on his 475... LOL

Great shooting Gregg! I am very impressed that he dropped in his tracks from the short-barreled revolver with a 103 yard shot! Where did you hit him at?

At any rate, congrats again!

Thank you Darrell.

The 400 gr XTP hit him just above the right shoulder but just below the spine. He never got back up again, but needed a finisher in the neck. Of course that big bullet exited, just a few inches rearward as he was quartering slightly toward me. The exit hole was fist sized, and took out pieces of the spine. The crippling damage was obviously from disrupting the spinal column and nerves, etc.

Thank all of you for your wonderful compliments. I am still riding the shock and awe aspect of my successful hunt!

Gregg

Excellent hunt. I do have a question about that J point sight. Does it work in the dark? I know some of those small red dot sights shut down by putting on a cover. Thanks

Thank you big bore for the compliment. And...excellent question. I had not ever tried it in the dark, and you are right, the JPoint uses a hood to "turn it off."

It does not work in the dark.
