A 26.5grn charge will produce roughly 1500 fps, and has nice recoil and accuracy out of my Ruger-SRH. That's what I am going out with tomorrow.
Try it out and see what you think.
Good luck.

The Hornady loading manual shows 20.0 grains H4227 as max with that bullet. The velocity listed is 1100 fps, and it was from a TC Contender so I doubt you will get there. My favorite 300 gr. load in Ruger 45's has been 21.5gr. of WW296 or H110 with a Federal magnum primer. That load is .2 grain under max and I get approximately 1100 fps depending on the gun and is one of those loads that seems to shoot in every Ruger 45 I try it in. I think a 300 gr. XTP going 1100 fps would serve well as your all around deer and bear load.

if your going to be loading for straight walled handgun bullets you really need to get some H110. W296 is so close it's not worth having both but H110 often gives the best performanc, reliability and accuracy in the widest array of calibers and bullet weights. It normally works best at or near max levels and also it often gives the best velocity. I get such good accuracy and reliability with H110 I don't even bother with anything else. I've used it in everything from the 32 H&R mag to the 500 Smith and Wesson. I only keep two handgun powders on hand, H110 for mag loads and HS6 for lower power loads such as the 38spcl but I've even used it for reduced power 475 Linebaugh loads.

need some load data like to puch this xtp about 1300 fps or 1200 that will be great all around load in my 45 for deer black bear. According to Hodgdon the fastest you can safely push that slug is 1202 FPS with 22.3 grains of 4227. H110 and LG will yield about the same max velocity. You might be able to inch a little closer to 1300 with a 'Tender with the closed breech, but I don't think you will get there with your revolver. At any rate 1200 FPS with a 300 will giterdun.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

i will check out the h110 to guys You'll like it, it's very versatile and reliable. It's not tempermental in extreme temperatures and basicly it just works great with a full case.
