I'll write up something for this trip but figured I'd share the pictures. I decided to take a friend to this ranch after a Stag Hind after talking with my buddy James here on the forum. We finished that up fairly early and had to burn some time while waiting for meat processing so we used our time wisely They weren't real crazy about going after the hind with the handgun but it seems they've had some bad experiences lately from other "handgun hunters". They were very adamant that they have had quite a few rifle hunters go home empty handed so just wanted to forwarn me that my chances were not all that good with the handgun. It worked out fine. All were taken with the 309 from 60 to 220 yards. Used 150 grain Nosler Solid Base bullets from a box of bullets that I bought with my father when I was 7 years old, box still has a 1985 dated price tag on it. Hind and axis were double lung shots and the hog I just took through the shoulders. Works like a charm

Congrat's on a great hunt!!
I missed the season opener today here as I have torn the muscle between my ribs and I'm in some kinda pain. Went to the doc. gave me a shot and I've slept all afternoon since I didn't last night.
Good luck to all those who made the season opener where ever you are hunting!!

Congrats! That some fine stocks for the freezer! The axis is mmmm...mmmm.. Good!
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Interesting shortgun. Went to doc today for torn muscles in left rear rib cage today myself. Now thanks to plenty of medicine, I'm feeling a little better. Last night was long! Hope your getting better also.
Thanks guys. It was a fun trip. Was good to try out a different barrel. Never had used that one before so I figured I'd break it in :-)

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

Nice work. I doubt they will be as concerned next time that see a handgun. Way to set them straight.

They have had plenty of hunters there with handguns, some of which we all know like doc Rogers, James, mr Ed and mrs deena. All of which have hunted all over and are great shots with handguns. I just think they had a few recent visitors this year that left a bad memory with them. I think they should require you to prove adequacy at the range prior to hunting but they don't. I bet that would help some. We are just a minority when you look at the big picture so I think it just always make people a little nervous until they know you. Im gonna have to ask James and doc how the reception was when they got there. Maybe me aiming sideways "gangsta" style did it. Who knows??
