I did not want to hijack Tyler from Waterloo NY's thread, but also being a southern zone hunter as he is, today was opening day.

So Tyler, how did you make out??????

I'm not far from you, just south of Syracuse

Used to live in Clifton Springs

Had what my wife calls the "Testosterone party" last night with all the guys that hunt stopping in my barn for beer and food, some off the smoker.
Woke up early and woke my 14 YO daughter who is hunting for the first time today

Very windy day

Never saw a deer.

That's Huntin'

She is ready to go back to it tomorrow.

That's my girl!!!!!!

Had my Ruger custom .44 special with me, she had her Remmie 870 youth model 20 guage

yup we will be back at it also. did not see any in the morning from the stand. heard one or two go through early then had one or two to my east at about 8 but did not see them. buck on a doe sounded like. got to my parents house and my sister had just missed one in the field with her ML. I hung out there till the afternoon. saw 6 from the house. did not stay still long enough to get out and set the 6BRX up. then nothing tonight either. dad got home from work and saw a spike. looks like tomorrow will be about the same wind wise. wonderful. that's huntin for sure. oh well. I would hate to be all done opening day anyway. had the 29 in a vertical shoulder rig today. thats going in the s can tonight. anyone have or make a thigh holster for a scoped revolver? with the pack and saftey vest and striker on a sling the shoulder rig is to much. other than that the pro ears worked great!!!

Well I can give a review of some of the new toys today.

With the wind I was not heading up a tree. Not so much a saftey concern as a steady shot concern. Stopped out to my parents house and dad and I came up with a plan. Drive the 4 wheeler about half way to the woods. Let dad off to walk to a stand with his ml. I will stay back at wheeler and lay prone with the rear grip brx. So we head out real early. No lights on.

We get all set up. Shooting time is 706 here. 711 a doe comes to the edge of the cut corn. Looks good not a yearling. Rang at 240 yards. Plug it into shooter. It spits out elevation and wind correction. I dial scope. Set up using rangfinder as a rear support (uneven tractor tire path) put it on her shoulder and wait for the wind gust to stop. I hear a muffled bang from inside the pro ears and see a whit belly facing me. Chamber another round and get set on her again. Her head came up and down just as I was applying trigger pressure. We will save that for the next one!.

2250 fps inpact with 1190 fpe. 105 6mm amax did it and did it well.
The mini muscle brake on the 10# striker allowed full feild of view
The monarch tracked perfect.
All in all good 5 minute hunt!

Good luck guys keep em comin

Thanks Tyler, excellent job, I'm west of you by fifty miles or so the weather keeps changin' drafty 60 degrees sunny then misty, good reason to by breathable high tech clothes. The deer are reacting to yesterday's pressure but they are still about. It's hard to complain about the temps when we had four inches of snow Friday morning. and the intermittent wind helps hide noise. Just took a break to feed the dogs and put the horses out, mebbe I'll give some public land a try.

Congrats Tyler! Meat in the freezer. Did I read that you used a Savage Striker?

That's Awesome, looks great. Congrats on the deer. I am using a T/C Encore with a 10" or 12" barrel (i forget) in 7MM-08. Hoping to get one with the .44 special this year.
