Have been looking at the JPoint or Doctor red dot to go on a 97 41 mag. Any input would be great.

They work great. It may take a little practice getting the dot in the pane at first, but once you know where to be it is duck soup. Mine is an Optima, similar to JPoint. Makes for a tidy package.

Rod, too.

I saw Millet is making a reflex sight now too but I got such a good deal on the tube style one I bought two for what I could have got the one reflex for. I don't know anything about, I know the guys said the tube style I bought are good other than the tinted lens but I'll probably try the reflex one next. I've always found the Millet iron sight stuff to be high quality so I figured I'd give their optics a shot.

I'll let you know tomorrow how I like the JPoint. Just got through installing one on my FA 97. So far, it's nice!

Need pics, too, Kim! Wondering if you used FA's mount.

Mine is in 45 colt. I'm waiting on the rain to pass now, so I can get her zeroed. I've got a few photos, but can't upload them from a phone. The only computer I have access to is at work and I'm off all week..

I'd be happy to email a pic to you if you want or wait till next week.

Ken, yes; I'm using the FA mount and got their holster to carry it. I shot it Sunday evening with irons (got impatient waiting on mount) and first three round from 25 yards were one ragged hole. I got all excited after that and shanked the next two shot, pulling the about 3/4" off. Can't wait to see what it'll do with the JPoint.

I'm sorry, I thought the one up top was yours (even though it didn't dawn on me that it was a Ruger and not an FA -- the fact that it's blued should have tipped me off!) -- I misread.....ooops.......I need more coffee......

Still looking forward to seeing it!

I put the 3.5MOA Leupold DeltaPoint on my 4 3/4" .500WE, using the FA mount. Although the instructions clearly say not to use the shim, I still had to use the shim...

Love the DeltaPoint on this rig, and it would work well on your 97...I've got a 4X Leupold on my 7.5" .41

Well the rain finally left; got the JPoint zeroed and now on stand hoping to break it in. This little 97 is stupid accurate! I'll let the pics speak for themselves when I can post'em. The dot is very accurate, but I can tell on a cloudy day the dot is a little too bright and it halos (it adjusts on its on). If you cover it slightly, it's fine. Seemed fine while I was zeroing in the little sunshine we had.

I'm supposed to have my Millet tomorrow but right now we have sustained winds running 40-50mph and gusts to 80mph and the rivers are at flood stage so UPS may not be able to get in to town. Where I live we have been completely isolated to where the only way in was by air a few time. Once I get it I'll let you know what I think, it's not a reflex but I figure if the quality on it is good then the reflex is probably quality also.

I have J Point sights on M97s in 41 Mag & 45 Colt. I find them easy to use and adequately accurate out to 100 yds or so. They make a neat package on the 97s, IMHO.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

WAC,

I am the world's worst photographer. I have not shot any photos since I mounted the J Points. The 41 is 7 1/2" and the 45 Colt is 5 1/2". The Colt is my favorite carry gun when out and about.

My litmus test for my revolvers is my "deer target." It is really a metal cut-out of a bull elk but it is about 2/3 the size of a mature deer. It stands 137 yds from my favorite shooting spot. With the 41 mag it is easy to keep them inside a reasonable kill zone on that target. I use the top of the dot as my aiming point and at that distance must allow a little for the drop. The revolver is zeroed at about 95 yds.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Well I received my Millet but when I turned it on I had about a 20 moa dot and when i shook it you could hear it rattling. I was going to just get a refund but for the price I decided I would try one more and give them the benefit of the doubt. think my next one will be the J Point or the Ultradot tube or reflex style.

Well I won't be giving them any benefit. I hope you fare better second time around Rod, but will you be able to "trust" it?

Rod, too.
