Just happened to stumble upon a Ruger Super Redhawk locally last night! Spent a good part of today working a trade for it and just got home with it about 30 minutes ago. Man, am I stoked!!! The guy had lost the scope rings for it, but I figure I can get some new rings later.
The only ammo I could get my hands on was some Federal 240 gr. Hydra-Shok's, will have to find some better suited ammo for it later, but I'm gonna take it out tomorrow and run some of the Hydra-Shok's through it and see what they will do.
Maybe Santa Claus will bring me some dies, powder, and bullets for X-mas!
It's official guys, the handgun hunting sickness has taken hold of me since harvesting the doe with the Contender this season...the hardest thing next year will be choosing which one to take out first next year.

Nice find! The fever is very contagious. As far as which to take,
compromise, and take them both.

Rod, too.

If he truly has the fever he'll have more than two to choose from next year. This year the G20 replaced the 629 as a woods walk gun. The Contender is my long range. Since I have taken one this year with the contender and the G20 I ordered a red dot and mount for the 629 to see if maybe I can get one with it before the end of season.

Well I managed to get away before it got too late and put 20 rounds of the Federal Hydra-Shok's through it. I was losing light pretty quick, so I put a target up at 25 yards just to get a feel for how it might shoot with the open sights...keep in mind my shooting with open sights is usually very poor due to wearing trifocals and having astigmatism in both eyes.
Anyway, three groups of 6 rounds each wound up being about 3" per group being about 3" high and and about 2" to the right. I couldnt adjust the groups down cause the sights are bottomed out. I dont think the Hydra-Shok's are designed for hunting type accuracy, but I think the SRH shows potential. The trigger has more creep in it than I am used to also...I guess Im used to the zero creep triggers on my Contenders, so that may have contributed to the larger than expected groups. Overall I am very pleased! Once the holidays are over with I'll get some rings and a scope and roll up some handloads for it. Will probably have to draw upon any of you with handloading experience for the SRH for advise as Im new to reloading for revolvers.

Nice pick-up TenderFan! As far as which one to take, flip a coin, let your stand location dictate choice, or like others have said, take both - Actually this AM is the first time I've carried only one pistol to the stand all year. ( And yes I am posting from the woods)

Scoped 44 Mag gets to play today if anyone comes out to visit...

Congrats again on the Ruger!

I was gonna go out this morning also, but the weather had other plans...rain, rain, rain. Unfortunately, this is the last day of our firearms season in Indiana...so the SRH will have to wait until next year to hunt. But no matter...that gives plenty of time to get it scoped and develop loads.

I was only able to take the one doe this year in firearms season, so I will have to rely on muzzleloader season to complete the venison cache for the year.

Are you looking for 1" rings for a scope?? OR 30mm for an UltraDot??
