Hey guys, does anyone have the scoop on scopes yet? Regarding manufacture, when you look them over, most are made in the Philippines or Thailand or Korea. Even Nikon's are not made in Japan any more. I have three Nikon's of differnet names, IE Monarch, etc and all are made in different countries. Are all of these scopes the same with just different names and prices? Gerry

I'm not sure about nikon but Burris and Leupold are both made in the U.S. and I have put them through hell on rifles and handguns and never had a failure. I've used them on calibers such as 458Lott, 375JDJ, and my bfr in 45-70 which I don't load to factory specs if you know what I mean, and I have never had a failure on these guns or my other heavy hitters.

Gerry, If you can relate to what I'm about to tell you this might open your eyes to the world of marketing. I oun a retail store that sells appliances under the name of "CROSLEY" a trusted name made by Maytag.I sell them because they last. Look at the background of these companies. If they don't have a pedigree of a good reputation RUN! Just know what you are buying and who you are buying it from.

We had a similar discussion on another forum, and it is amazing how many optics are made over seas. Some of the companies surprise you. I am not sure about Burris, but not even all of Leuopold products are made in the US.

Thanks for everyone's input. I presently own mostly Leupold and Burris, with a few Simmons, Tasco, Bushnell, Redfield, and T/C bolted fast . What I was really wondering, and didn't ask correctly, is how many are made in the same factory or company for two different names. Judging by what I see, there are a lot of generic scopes that are same price and look alike. I find it hard to believe that most of these companies can have there own production lines. I think a lot of them are purchased and marketed by suppliers, but I could be wrong. I think even the new Leupold Rifleman series and handgun series is being made overseas and assembled here in the US.
