Hello again

I was just wondering about my "new" FA 83, 454casull

Its made in 1990 but looks very good, the barrel is clean and good rifling.
Is there anyone that has taken one of these babies apart for cleaning and oiling.

Niels

oiling

Do not overdo that. In cold climates certain lubricants can gum up. I do not oil anything internal on a wheelgun.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

It's not too bad but there are several things that are spring loaded that will go boing if you don't know what you're doing and make reassembly interesting.

do you guys "fully" take down your wheelguns often? I guess I do the "usual", scrub the the barrel and cylinder and then give the exterior surfaces a coat of oil.

don't want to hi-jack this thread, but just wondering if that is something that should be done on a regular basis?

I think if I hunted anywhere near salt water I would be more apt on a total take down and clean

Total disassembly of FA's is almost never necessary, and is often just inviting a problem for most people who are not thoroughly familiar with reassembly. Any necessary oiling can be accomplished with just the cylinder removed.
