Hit my LR spot this AM. Nothing exciting to note.....XP WSM 7mm-270WSM, 162AM, Burris 3-12x32. Range 363yds. No wind to speak of.

The legal buck was standing on a slight hill behind a spike but his entire body was visible. I split the second stadia (306yds)and third stadia (408yds) in the Burris on his shoulder and sent an A-Max across the valley. The buck folded so fast the other one just stood there looking at him. It even bedded down nearby and hung around for a while, occassionally pawing at him. Impact was mid-shoulder and exit was about 1" across.

Here's a pic of my latest attempt in finding a rock solid field rest to use. It's a surveyors tripod w/ a piece of 1/2 wood bolted on top....it's actually an old cabinet door! I like it and cost less to build than a Harris Swivel bipod! Last week at the range I laid down some groups from this rest at 400yds that would make about any rifle toting deer hunter dreamof at 100yds!

Sorry no deer pics. I took everything back to the truck before hiking across to get the deer.

How many points was he? I'm guessing 3 (two ears and a tail).

Dan,
Good for you.
I still think it looks better with the NF scope on it though!

Thanks. I've been toying with a bunch of different stuff over the last six years. So far this is the best.....bulky....but has a shoulder strap that makes it easy to carry and it's not that heavy.

The tough part about hunting some of the spots that I frequent for LR is that you are standing on a downward slope and shooting across onto an uphill slope. Then all the low lying brush also gets in the way. With this set up I can adjust the legs to any terrain and still maintain good height to stand and shoot from.

The tripod is borrowed. After the season I'm going to buy one of my own, maybe tweak the shooting platform a little and give it a good spray bomb treatment.

that looks like an excellent setup for special situations! congrats on the deer too.

wondering how much those tripods cost....and how dificult to attach the board to the pod?........n you say it adjust to a "stand up" height to rest from? lol....20 questions....sorry.

i killed 2 slick head punkin eaters here on the farm, n thats it. pressed for time/energy etc, with no ammo loaded n sighted in, i just used factory 240gr win white box factory loads in the 44 bisley hunter. they worked fine at 35-50yrds. i shoulda kilt more!....they got me for 150-200 pumpkins back in sept! brought my total down to 550 er so to sell. i think i STILL owe em one!

Here's a refurb for $35-50.

Link to Tripod

It was super easy to attach the board. The tripod has a hole through the top with an aluminum bracket on the under side. I just drilled two holes in the board and took two bolts, slid them through the board holes, through the slot in the bracket and put nuts/washers on the bottom side!

The lowest height would be with the legs collapsed and spread out as wide as you wish. I bet you could get it low enough to shoot prone!! The max height with legs extended and the shooting platform in place is too high for me to shoot from. The platform is eye level (or a bit higher....I'm 6' tall) then with the gun on top it's way too high.

Just when you think you've thought of everything along comes some one like you! I think that rest is one of the most clever ideas I've ever seen! Great idea!

KYODE Yes I shot a buck on monday aftrenoon. The shot was about 80 yds. off a rest from our new tree stand. Deer was standing I placed the shot high behind front shoulder (deer was facing left) with the downward angle of bullet it removed part of the front leg on the other side of deer. It was a big deer with only a 4 point rack. I have a disabled hunting premit so the buck was legal for me to shot here in Pa. Yes the 300 Kyode mag will go out for doe season on saturday.
