Old shotgun & muzzle loader hunter. Bought a new .44 Mag revolver. Can someone tell me the difference between .44 Magnum & .44 Remington Magnum?

welcome, we're always happy to hear from new folks. and when it comes to your question, you would be surprised at how many simple questions like that turn out to have rather complicated answers, how many times there are more than one correct way to answer it depending on the situation. most of all when you're not really sure, ask and then ponder your new found wealth of information. I'm going thru that with black powder substitutes, they are all different and sort of the same, and real dam confusing, but I don't really want to blow up a perfectly fine handgun..

magnut,

Welcome to HHM. The 44 magnum was a joint development between Remington and Smith and Wesson, hence 44 Remington Magnum. Elmer Keith prompted and provided data to both for years to encourage them to develop the round. the only "dumb" question, is the one that is not asked! We're here to share our knowledge and experience AND have a good time doin' it.

I bought a Ruger new model super blackhawk hunter .44 mag. It was listed in a back issue of Field and Stream Magazine as one of the top 25 hand guns for hunting. I already have two Rugers,
( SR9 9mm ) and ( LCP 380 ) and like them a lot. Not to mention my trusty old 10-22 my dad gave me when I was a kid. Its nice to see quality in an American made product.

Put a set of Wolff springs in it or have an action job done on it and it will be even better and if you do you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. The springs are about 15.00 or a full action job with springs and stoning the sear engagement I get 75.00 for but I'm not sure what everyone else is at anymore.

I too have a SBHH but it is a Bisley. Would I get the same Wolff springs?

I just had a conversation about this with a friend and I have sold off nearly all of my rifles. I just don't use them anymore, and frankly I don't miss them.

Ditto. The only rifle I have left is the very first rifle that I bought with my own money @ 16 yrs of age. I will keep that one forever, otherwise it is all shortguns. Although some are longer than others ;-)
