Hunting exclusively with S&W revolvers (well a T/C muzzle loader pistol) S&W runs them so I guess it’s OK, a bit of a dilemma here. I’ll carry either a 460 XVR or 357 Mag each will complete the task on white tail. I do like the “dial a caliber” depending on conditions with each firearm. Question: The S&W ProHunter or Stealth 44 cal? Do I need one NO do I want one Yes! Both listed have both ends of the 44 covered as to shear lead dispensing goes “but” a 44 would complete my collection. Anyone have/or used either of the weapons? I’m leaning towards the Stealth, I’ll set another AimPoint 9000SC 2 MOA on top as my other hand cannons. My plan is to have a nice Christmas present under the tree this year. Any suggestions would help my final choice. Yes (I know) there are other quality handguns out in the market, so unless you want to contribute to the purchase I don’t want to hear “you should buy this”.
Thanks all ………………..FPG in Tennessee

Are you talking about the T/C Prohunter Encore? If so that is the way I'd go only because if you were to hunt the open country of the west where shots can be stretched a good bit further than even the 460 you have the option of going to another barrel in a caliber capable of much greater range and power. If all your hunting is under 200yds which is about max for the 460 then the Stealth would be fine and you have a cylinder full of rounds so a back up shot is quicker. Just depends on your needs but really the best solution is to buy both and throw in a couple extra barrels for the Pro Hunter aside from the 44, maybe a 30-06 or 270 and then a thumper like the 450 Marlin and then maybe a 223 for varmints and the....... You get the picture.

Thanks for the quick responce,
The vast majority here would be in the 100 yrs max range. Most under 100, if I should venture out west no doubt a rifle round barrel would be in order of my T/C Encore, as well as removing the Aimpoint red dot and adding a quality long range optics.

You may find few old bucks and a few bold bucks! But you won’t find any OLD ……… BOLD bucks! Same goes for test pilots!

Smith & Wesson the holding company for T/C and Walther or so the S&W webb site states. I found this out originally when attempting purchase of a T/C replacement barrel for my Encore pistol. I did speak to an engineer in the department; he stated forget anything “custom” now the S&W is running the show. So I went to Mike Bellem in Co for the replacement.

I am aware of that. What I was questioning was whether it was "OK" ;-)

FPG,

Go with the Stealth revolver - it'll be at home with the other wheelguns, as well as fill the void nicely!

Thanks

I use a bandolier holster by S&W for their 460 w/scope, use the same when “totting” the 357 mag ………… the 44 will fit nicely as well.

Congrats on making the Christmas decision! The Stealth looks like a great revolver...btw I've got the 6" 686 and the 10.5" PC 460 - at some point in time I'll need to fill the S&W "void" I have in my line-up....but with a 7.5" FA M83 .44 finding its' way home this fall, I don't see it showing up for Christmas!
