So my girl friend want's a gun, specifically a "police gun." She shot my .40 for the first time this weekend and is now really wanting a gun. I think I have convinced her that she wants a .22, less noise, recoil, and cheap to shoot.
So what should I look for? I have heard nothing but bad things about the p22, mosquito, and various 1911 22s. Don't want to spend too much but quality is important.

Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Bud's Gun Shop had a EAA (CZ75) full size steel frame 9MM with a 22LR conversion kit for $419--that way she could shoot both 9mm and 22LR from the same gun--both would almost be zero recoil from that platform
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I have no complaints about my Ruger 22/45s except for the triggers. A quick trip to Rod's fixed that. The two that he fixed for my grandsons have almost match quality triggers & shoot quite accurately. However, I do not know if they will qualify as "police guns."
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Thinking real hard about one of these. http://sigsauer.us/CatalogProductDetails/1911-22.aspxIt will probably be a little bit before I get it, school starts back next week and she starts a new job Monday, she just graduated in December. We will be pretty busy for a while. She want it to be pink, so it may be getting some hogue pink grips

The 22/45 falls under the category of "space gun"
you can't make this up.

Get her a good 9mm and start out on sale ammo at ten bucks a box. Te nine will do everything that she needs. Best bet though is a good 38 wheel gun. She would know when it is loaded and empty. Autos have too many issues to think about when shooting.

Get her a wheel gun and Dirty Harry on DVD. Ha! I like Gary's idea - it'll be a whole lot safer platform than a semi-auto for a newbie shooter...however, if that idea fails (or you can't find one in pink), the Walther PPK's that I have shot were of good quality, had reasonable triggers, and surprisingly accurate for a short-barreled semi. Haven't seen near the number of negative reviews on that one as compared to the Mosquito...

DA wheel guns are awesome for beginning shooters and there are some good .22's out there. PPK - don't know - maybe a little too small to build good basics. Hey, take her on a gunshow date and see what feels good in her hands. Nothing says "big ol' romantic" like a gun show date. For some reason, my wife is not a romantic, though...

MRS. Rupe can't wait until I get a 2" .357 so she can have my 2" .38, she loves that little revolver and shoots it well. That is what I started her out on and she fell in loove with it. GO WHEEL GUN!

Ruger makes good .22. I have the Mark III. But the P22 type pistol is also very good from what I have seen. Not sure if I'll ruffle feathers but the Barretta Neo is a good inexpensive pistol.

Why not take her to a range that rent's guns and have her try them out. Unless you're trying to enlarge your own collection!!!!

I bought my wife a model 19 two inch barrel. It barked a lot butshe shot well with it. I sold it for my first 586. She shot that even better. Now she has a model 36 with a great trigger job. (Sure with i still had the 19)

j frame smith is a no brainer gun. I carry it for CCW. If recoil bothers her them a LCR in 22 or a j frame in 22. Jframe in 22LR is stupidly expensive though.
