Another recent post got me to thinking about a Redfield 2-7x scope I've had for a long time. I got it back in my early days of becoming familiar with handguns and hunting with them. It was actually for my first Encore, which was the first Encore I'd ever seen in person. Might have even been a first yr production model.

Anyway, I traded a revolver for the 10" 7mm/08 Encore at a gunshow, then took it to a local shop where I was living at the time and told David to order me a scope and base, and mount 'em up for me.

What he installed was the Redfield scope with a 3-ring base. To this day, I still have not seen nor heard mention of Redfield pistol scopes. I don't know his reasoning behind choosing this set-up for me, but I sure do like it still to this day.

I think I've still got the mount in a drawer but the scope has been used on several of my other barrels since, and it is on a 15" 7/08 now.

Does anyone here remember the Redfield pistol scopes?

I've never owned one but I've shot couple on different guns. Both of them were early 221's both contender and XP.

Sounds like it can handle the 7-08!

Boartuff, One of the first handgun scopes I bought was a Redfield 2-6X. I used that scope when I bought my FA 454 and shot hundreds of full power handloads through it besides using it for hunting. That scope was on the 454 when I took a Shiras moose in `99 and was used to take a number of whitetail before it had to be repaired. The Redfield`s optics were as good as Leupold or Burris and since it was made in Colorado you knew it was good. Sadly they are no longer being made. I managed to locate two more variables and one 2x. As you can se I`am very fond of Redfields and wish they would return...

PS- your variable was one of the last ones made before they closed their doors....

I once had a Redfield 4X on a .223 Contender. I sold the rig to a friend who has used the scope on several barrels over the last 21 years, and it is still performing in excellent fashion.

Gregg, what do your 3 ring Redfield bases fit? That same friend might be interested in them.Let me know the selling price, shipped, too.
Thanks

I have an old 2 x 6 variable Redfield handgun scope. I had it mounted on a Super 16 45-70 barrel but the recoil did something to the scope. No matter what I could not adjust the crosshairs.

I wish it could be repaired. Does anyone know of a business that could repair it? Thanks

Might be worth checking into now that Leupold has resurrected Redfield in Oregon.
