Lets put this under "interesting jobs". Was going through my files and found the following in the Aug. 1991 issue of National Geographic magazine. A fellow by the name of Bob Mattos was hired by the government to work at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. His job?? To track down and kill, with his dog pack, every feral hog he can find in the park. You see the government and the tree huggers found out that wild pigs can be very destructive and were eating all the native plants of the tropical forest. I`am almost positive, from the shape of the grip, that Bobby uses a Ruger Redhawk in, I believe, a Bianchi "Hush" shoulder holster. Where can I apply for the job???

I met a guy a while back who worked for the Dept of Agriculture and his job was to go around the state hunting predators and at the time I talked to him it was primarily cougars. I know of another guy that was hired by the state to kill crows because they were eating the eggs of some endangered sea bird.

Not too bad! We had some guys out to our hunt club last year from the FDA that had to harvest feral swine across the state for brucellosis testing - they came equipped with tricked out AR's - suppressed, NIght vision, and (WOW) thermal weapon-mounted scopes. Ummm, nice toys for "work".

sounds like a great job...but id sooner see them open the area for hunting, liberal bag limit, then if ya must have the wardens finish the job. on the other hand it was done on one of the coastal islands here for white tail and the land owners didnt even know when he started or finished.

I know he didn't get them all! when I was at Volcanoes National Park in 2009 I saw an entire troop of hogs. Mama, a boar (I think) and a whole bunch of piglets.
Pretty cool looking, they were jet black except for the piglets

They arent gone. I was stationed in Hawaii for a little while and I know for fact that the hogs are still there. But that would be high on my list of most awsome jobs to have ever!!

I couldn't have that job. When we dog hunted in florida it wasn't odd to kill 6-10 hogs before lunch with three of us hunting behind about five dogs. It was usually all we could do to get them out of the woods and field dressed before dark. An hour drive home and would get everything in coolers and mess cleaned up by about 1am. There's no way I would want to do that everyday and I haven't quite put hogs so far down the list that I leave them in the woods to rot. Some people do especially those that are doing it for a living. I spent some time talking to a guy who removed hogs at the space center at cape canaveral in Florida. He basically had a certain number of hogs he had to kill per year and had to pay them for every hog less than his quoted number. He was giving up on it after several years of turning dogs loose before daylight and hunting until dark then checking traps for a couple hours after dark. He basically said the fun ran out in a hurry and that if you loved to hug hunt don't try to do it for a living.
