In the spirit of ethical handgun hunting and a March pig hunt looming on my horizon I'm seriously considering taking my ol' Python along. We've been together for many years and make a great team.

I have a Beartooth 185WFN hard cast/2400 load that shoots very well.

50 yard limit.

Thanks guys, WVS329.

If you do your part, your .357 loaded like that should do its part in spades. Keep us posted!

Good luck on your hunt and be sure to post up some pics!!

And remember, don't try to shoot a big boar hog through the shoulder, instead, put the bullet in BEHIND the shoulder, quartering away if possible. Vitals are lower than we're accustomed to with deer. Keep your shot into the lower third and you should do fine. Smaller boars and sows, it isn't as critical.

An inch or so under the ear and most anything will go right down.

With a .357, think like an archery hunter. You want a slight quartering away shot and shoot for the opposite side front leg. That should put your bullet straight through the boiler room and probably make for a darn near DRT shot.

With a rifle the head shot is a definite DRT shot, however I don't trust that I can put a handgun bullet there every time.

Hogs are some tough critters. Even a mortally wounded one can put some serious distance between you and him after the shot.

Sounds like a plan. Where do you plan to hunt?

Hogs really aren't that hard to kill. If you put that bullet where it needs to be you should have a short easy track. Killed a pile of them with a knife hog hunting and maybe had one kick 10 seconds max after being hit in the heart. Good luck.

bigbore442001, we're going to Tennessee.

Here's some piggies from two years ago. Sorry about the huge pic. In the first picture I'm 3rd from the left in the orange hat standing behind my pig. Darn good eatin'.

In the bottom picture my buddy Maddog poses with his 45/70 that kicks butt in Africa every year. Sorry 'bout the rifle porn.
