I got this hog sunday on some private land next to home. I deer hunted this same land during bow, black powder, and gun seasons. Got pics of a few deer but mostly pics of hogs. I decided to put up a stand a few weeks ago and started getting pics in a few days. I set up sunday evening and this hog and another one came in. I picked the bigger of the two and when she turned I put a 250 gr. XTP from my 12 inch 454 Casull TC Encore in her thinker. No tracking involved. The bad part is I had to drag her out by myself. 09_06_40_57.jpg[/img]

Fat ole porker. Good show. It is nice that you still have hunting options at this time. Congrat's.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

WTG, Okie! Nice shot with the 454. Did you have any bait out?
I've hunted hogs several times in Okla. and have always enjoyed it and killed many pigs. Seems as though everytime I find a good place, it ends up getting over-hunted pretty quick.
You guys have a good thing down there with the pigs. Unless you're a rancher getting his crops and terrain torn up, then it might not seem so good.

Congrats that's a great hog and a great shot! I wouldn't mind seeing a few of them from my tree stand that's for sure!

Thanks guys. I'm using just plain ole corn. I've got a feeder going off in the morning but from the pics nothing is coming in until almost dark and only hogs. I had to move my stand from earlier in the season because someone put a stand less than 100 yards from mine and they knew I was hunting there. Finally recovered from the drag. No fun. I gave her to a older couple to have processed. They really appreciated it.

Great looking hog! How did the 250 gr. XTP hold up?

I shot her in the forehead so i didn't get to recover the bullet. The next rounds i load up will be 300 gr. XTPs. The 250s aren't built for 454 velocity .

My advice is get an ATV for the dragging part; looks like the 454 has everything else handled.
If you think preparedness is expensive, try 'winging' it.
