I've been wanting a Freedom Arms revolver for awhile now... I been thinking the 44 mag or maybe the 480...Since they are expensive as they are I thought I would ask you fine people;are they worth the money and is the accuracy really as good as I read about?

You can find great deals on the used market. I have seen many in the $1,000.00 to $1,200.00 range.

I agree with Whitworth. I have several. Many were "new to me." I have purchased a few at less than $1,000. I will always pay that for a FA regardless of caliber. Case in point -- my latest acquisition was a 50 AE --- only because it was considerably less than a grand. Otherwise, I would never have considered it.

That said, IMHO, they are worth what they cost. I have never yet owned a revolver that will shoot with my poorest FA. The difference between my best and my poorest is maybe 1/2 to 3/4" at 100 yds. My experience is that they are shooters. I currently have nine of them.

Whitworth,

What are you looking for? I seem to have too much luck finding them. LOL

I bought a new one last year, and I love it.
I am not rich by any means (quite the opposite lol), but I inherited some money and wanted to do at least something fun with it instead of spending it all on college tuition.

That being said I really wanted a 454 casull and I figured the only way to do it was go for the original, a FA premier 7 1/2". I have not looked back since, and do not regret it at all even though I am broke now lol shoots great and I know it will serve me the rest of my life with whatever I feed it as long as I take care of it.

They are the best. Mine are incredibly accurate. Much more so than I will post here on the forum. I've shot groups at 155 yards that you wouldn't believe
\:\)

I'll keep adding them to the safe as I can. Plus, the folks at FA are about the best you will find.

A few years ago a friend of mine from Alaska got in a bind and needed some money ASAP and all he had that he could part with was a FA field grade in 454. I bought it from him for about 1/3 of what it cost him. I got lucky that he had about 150 rnds of mixed Hornady and Cor-Bon 454 and about 200 rnds Winchester 45 colt. I got to shoot it quite a bit that summer getting ready for season. It was a great handgun. The best built and most accurate of any big bore I have shot yet. My deal with him was that I would sell it back to him when he got the money I gave him for it. Shortly before season he came up with the money and got it back. I wound up buying that same gun from him again the next summer with the same agreement. Two weeks later he got it back again. It was a great handgun and I LOVE the bisley grip frame. If you can afford one I would recommend you buy one.

Vern,

My comments will echo the others - all that I've purchased have been "new-to-me", fantastic fit and quality, but above all else, shoot like no other wheelguns I've shot...that being said, I've never regretted purchasing one. Not purchasing a couple that I hesitated on, definitely!

6 FA's later, I'm still looking for more.

There are some deals out there for sure. I've only ever been able to find buy at the 1K mark - all others have been more than that but if you're patient they can be found with some regularity at 13-1500 for a gun in like new condition. I just picked up a field grade 475 for 1370. I've bought a couple of PG guns with Leupold's for $1800 but they were pristine.

The 454 is by far the most common. The 475's usually go for a few more bucks on the used market based on my observations and the 44's can be hard to find.

Love my FA's,I own six of them now and everyone of them is very accurate. They are expensive but to me are worth the money. Like the guys are saying you can find some good deals out there if you keep your eyes and hears open for them.

Good luck

I recommend NOT getting one! If you do, you'll go crazy wanting more: short tube, long tube, micarta grips, winewood grips, scoped, iron sighted, one with red dot, ported, not ported, 357mag, 41mag, 44mag........etc!

So, buy a ruger....

Vern, They are worth it and then some. If you have it in your mind to get one, don`t hesitate. My FA`s revolvers are more accurate then I`ll ever be. Enclosed is a photo of a 3 shot group at 100 yards from my 475 shooting 425gr WFNGC bullets...

Vern,

Welcome to the FA addicts. You never have enough. My small collection began about 18 yrs ago. I always need just one more.

Ain't that the truth?! Even when I out myself on spending freeze, the FA "good deal" exemption trumps any budget crisis.

Not as of yet, since most of my gun funds went to fund my GAP 308. If anyone has one in 44 mag for $1k or less, let me know and I'll consider taking it off your hands.

James, that is an impressive group, and however accurate the revolver may be, the shooter sure was doing his part. Good job!

If it were supposed to be easy, they'd have sent my little sister to do it.

Tattoo,

I purchased a used FA 44 10" bbl last year for 1K. My friend who lives in Ohio found it --- an acquaintance of his that used it to shoot competitions but had gotten too old for the 44.

Unfortunately, I shot it once & even I could hit some with it (open sights). It had a really good trigger. Then my "unoffically adopted grandson" shot it. I have not seen it since. LOL

Point is that they are out there. You just have to search for them.

Tattoo, just hope we don't find them first...because a non-454 for $1000 or less is gonna go FAST. Fortunately I've stumbled on a couple of them

WT seems to have the knack for them though!

Any FA for under 1K won't last long.
