I noticed that the Ultradot was well recommended in this forum. My catalog shows that there are 4 models of ultradot. One is for 1" rings so I ruled that one out. That leaves the Ultra Dot Four, the Ultra Dot 30 and the Matchdot. What are the pros and cons of each of these?
I will be using this gun for hunting mostly with a little range use in between.
Thanks, Gary

What gun are you going to use it on? If you have a Ruger and using Ruger ringmounts the only one that will fit is the 30 which has a single dot size. The others have adjustable dot sizes which can be nice to shrink the dot for longer ranges and make it larger for up-close.
I have a 1"er on a 45/410 pistol and it isn't a bad sight, just a smaller window to look through.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Thanks, Gary My personal no-nonsense favorite is the Ultradot 30. But, there are more models than four -- go to http://www.ultradotwest.com and have a look.

I am using a Ruger Redhawk 7-1/2" barrel with the integral scope mount on the barrel. I can get leopold rings ot Burris rings to fit the cutouts and I also have an adapter rail that mates weaver rings to the ruger barrel. The rings can be had in medium or high sizes. With the adapter rail I can do what I want. I would rather not use the rail if I can help it. one more thing to loosen up.
From what you wrote I assume that I need taller rings than the stock Ruger if I want anything but the Ultra Dot 30. Is this correct?

That will teach me to not check the net when I am using a catalog as a source. The distributor that I deal with most of the time only had 4 different models listed in its catalog.

The height is not an issue, the distance between the rings is. Without an extension ring there is only 1-7/8" between the rings and the only UD that will fit is the 30. The 1" UD will also fit in between the 1" factory rings but you had ruled that one out already.
Rod, too.

here is the adapter rail that I have. The rings can be placed farther apart than the standard rings on the ruger.

I feel the same way but might use it until I can figure out what I really need. I had ordered this for a customer who decided that he did not want it so I threw it in the spare parts bin.

I put a Ultra dot Match dot on my 460 X frame, I am very happy with it.
