OK ... I have my permit ... my gun ,glock 21, and some ammo to play with . When i am tracking i will be wearing bibs and a vest so a side holster is out .I have been looking for a chest holster or shoulder.
So far the chest holster has been tough unless im going to buy a tatical vest .This is the only one i could find.Diamonds guides choice chest rig. http://www.diamonddcustomleather.com/Diamond_D_Custom_Leather.php

The Diamond D is amazing, just purchased one and have no regrets with it.

The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

Try the "Chesty Puller" model. I use one for a Ruger Alaskan...can't beat it for simplicity and toughness.

If you think preparedness is expensive, try 'winging' it.

I've been using this gizmo for a while. It's not really a holster per se, but it offers an alternative carry method with additional features not offered by a traditional holster like storage of extra gear and superior protection from the elements.

Obviously, its use is limited to handguns of a certain dimension, but if it will fit you may find it useful. I certainly have.

Well, if this were a revolver I would not make this recommendation, but the Galco Miami Classic is a shoulder holster that should be given some consideration. It was designed for urban concealment, but I do not go to the woods without having mine at least handy as an option. If the woods chores tend more to other "stuff" with the gun being secondary, it is hard to beat. And I find that the gun and magazine pouch tend to keep my upper body more cool from sweat. Trying not to be too graphic here, but for me it is amazing.

Direction of gun pull is a big factor, and that depends on holster choice. In my experience, it is easier and more natural to pull the gun out of the holster in a more or less lateral direction than in a vertical direction, especially while wearing heavy cold weather hunting clothing.

I've been using chest holsters for all my hunting lately. The two I have are from the links below.
for my S&W Mountain Gun:

For my S&W 500:

Both are very well made and perfect for my hunting situations.

You have to figure out how your going to use it. I have a shoulder holster for a scoped FA that I cut and had re-sewn, just to ride in an inflatable boat in the rivers of Alaska. you can get a few nylon rigs, cut them up, and change them around. mark it, and head to a shoe repair, or upholsterers, and have them sew it professionally

You cant shoot a big one, if you shoot a little one first.......
