Welcome Willy, I'm a ruger fan and admittedly biased so you can guess what I'd say. I'm sure some guys who have both will chime in shortly.
The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

Either will perform well, but I prefer the grip angle of the 22/45.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Yes you cannot go wrong with Ruger. Try the new model single six with the 22 mag conv.I have shot all sorts of animals with mine. It's great for target shooting as well.

Either will perform well, but I prefer the grip angle of the 22/45. Ditto....and the fact that mine has probably had close to, or better than, 250,000 rounds and never a malfunction (other than ammo misfire), makes me bias.

What about the Ruger Mark III Hunter? I look at that and think my kids could learn to shoot with it.

I have both the Ruger 22/45 and a Browning buckmark with a heavy bull barrel, and like then both; they both have their own feel and on any given day, either one, tough choice!

I shoot a lot of 22's and 22 mags, so I picked up a Ruger hunter, with both cylinders and got a bisley grip frame melded to it. It has the same feel as all my suger single actions, and no recoil. Its a sweet looking piece too.

I have a Ruger MKI 5.5" bull barrel that was purchased in the late 70's. It finally had to be sent to the factory a few years ago because it was worn beyond safety. Ruger replaced the internal parts and shipped it to me for a total of $20. Were I going to buy a new .22 I would get the 22/45.

Hey bearskinner, I too have large fingers, was that super single or sugar single, either way the ruger is a sweet shooter. mine has a six inch barrel I bought 35 years ago, and the mark one with a bull barrel competes for equal time, then again barrels are cheap so I picked up a rimfire barel for my contender. the year after my kids bought me a Kimber 45, they bought me a .22 conversion kit, now and i buy rimfires by the brick as a hedge against future shortages.

Between a 22 lr. semiautomatic or a revolver, which one would you choose? Initially I thought of buying a semiautomatic but now I'm thinking to buy a six gun to practice with something similar to my Ruger Bisley 44 mag.

trigger action on a revolver will be more similar, especially if it is one of the "family" but the bigger picture is the ability to practice the steps... sight acquisition, sight picture trigger control... in sequence with less fatigue because of the lower recoil and muzzle blast and less fatigue on your wallet shooting rimfire ammunition.

Having something similar in feel to your regular hunting handguns is great practice, but when you get into a field of ground squirrels, and they start running in every direction, theres nothing like having a semi auto with a couple extra magazines too.
