Good day Anyone here familiar with a Weatherby MarkV pistol. I found one for sale and would like to know if anyone has ever rebarreled one to another caliber and how easy or hard it is to do. Also what reputation does this gun have as I havn;t heard much about it. Thanks in advance for the info. Mike
PS. I also posted on another site.

SSPHunter,
I have 5 of these pistols ( hand rifles ). I assume you are talking about the Weatherby CFP ( compact firing platform ). As with all other Weatherby MKV, they were guaranteed to shoot 1 1/2" or less with factory ammo at 100 yards. Each and every one of mine does that easily. I have the 223, 22-250, 243, 7mm-08, 308. They are fitted with 16" barrels, so they may be termed hand rifles. They can be rebarreled like the XPs and Strikers ( the Striker are the easiest to rebarrel ). Are there any issues with the bolt face if rechambering to a round with a larger head? No more than with the XPs. These gun are rear hold, and some folks prefer center hold guns like the original XPs and Wichita Silhouette guns. Personally, I have and like both systems. I haven't felt driven to rechamber any of these guns, as I feel they are adequate for my uses and needs; however, needs play a small part in the equation. If you ever get to Montana, you are welcome to help me try to wear any of them out on gophers, etc..
Hope this helps, Doc

Thanks for the info The one I found is chambered in 22-250. I havn't personaly seen it yet but have responded to his add. Any idea what they were worth new and now used. I found one online for $900 and there was one posted as rare for over $3000. It's almost grab what you can find up here because we can't use handguns other than on a register and approved gun range up here so nobody stocks these kind of toys, um, I mean guns.LOL. I know impoting one is expensive as I imported a Striker a couple years ago. What part of Montana are you from? I used to go to the Fort Peck--Circle area for antelope almost on a yearly basis untill it got hard to draw a tag there. I think the area was 650. Mike

Mike,
I've seen then low for $950, used, and high, as you say for $3,000 ( they're nice but not worth $3K ). CDNN was closing out on the CFPs, matte blue, non-fluted barrels, rings, for $985, a couple of years ago if I remember correctly. They have since sold out on them. I live in Ft. Shaw, on the eastern front of the Rockies, approximately 35 miles northwest of Great Falls.

Mike,
Weatherby placed 16 1/2 barrels on the CFP and listed them as rifles for US laws. Not sure if Canada views them as rifles or handguns, due to barrel length.

There were 2 generations. back in the 80's (?) they were mid grip and fancy wood thumbhole stocks for silhouette and THEY are asking $3-$4K. Only made 500 (?) each caliber.
And than was the CFP.
Pretty, but as of yet, I have not heard geat things about accuracy.

If it's one of the original beautifully walnut stocked mid-grips, I would not re-barrel it unless the original was ruined. They are extremely rare. As Larry says, they were scheduled to make 500 of them, but in fact, I'm told they made far fewer.

Yep, that's right. So it is a rear grip gun? Well then, you have to decide what weight the Weatherby name carries unto itself as far as value because the CFP guns are really nothing special. I would value a midgrip XP action much more desireable and will not pay more than a half a G for one of them. Being a factory gun, a rebarrel might be a simple swap if within the same model and bolt face, but YMMV.

YMMV ??? I'll probably regret asking this but what does YMMV mean? Mike Yep, that's right. So it is a rear grip gun?
