I shot this opening mornig (thought I messed it). I shot at it at a little over 200 yds thru the woods. Thought I hit it looked for 2 hrs.
Had to go to work second day. My buddy said he would take another look. He found it and did not say a word.(20 yds from where I quit looking).
Long story short him and my wife which I love very much. Got it mounted and kept it quite.

BFR,

Great buck. And you learned something that I have seen from both ends on many hunts. A second set of eyes. It seems to me that the shooter has a big emotional tie to the shot and gametrack, and the other person can be more rational or methodical, for lack of better terms. Tag team ;^)

Thanks everyone.

About the hunt we hunt about 75 acres always get ok deer. Openning day will pull in the road deer run everywhere.Get up in the tree hr before daylight. Yes in KY we climb trees. Anyway after hearing deer and not seeing them still dark. The sun rises and does everywhere.

The guy we hunt on we have to take some many does. So about 9 am after not seeing a buck. I decide to take a doe and end up with 2.
Getting ready to get down and I see him looking my way. I get a bead on him and let it rip. Im shooting a XP100 284 140 Accubonds loaded hot.

Buddy told me I hit about 4" behind shoulder blade. Said exit hole was not much bigger than hole going in.

I could not find blood trail. He said there wasnt much of one until last 10 yds.

So season wasnt a big bust after all.

that is a heck of a deer, but i would not like that being kept secret from me that long at all! 3 months far exceeds my "surprise" limit.

What a beautiful buck. Sounds like you got some great friends to.

How do you like your 284? I just ordered a 284 in MOA Max. in January. What kind of velocitys are you getting with the 140's?

I wholeheartedly second that. Several deer have been buddy found and vice versa. I'll never give up on downed game without enlisting the help of a buddy.

HAHA!! Good for him! To me, you can never have to much of that stuff in the freezer, unless the door won't shut! :-)

Congrats on a beautiful deer and great friends. I got my first handgun deer by going out after work to help a friend look for hisdeer. I took my colt king cobra because of all the walking and dragging out of his deer. I enjoy hunting esp.w/a hunting buddy to share it with.Another set of eyes and ears, and hands are always welcome.

That's kinda funny, yet almost cruel at the same time. The few times I've lost an animal, I got down on myself pretty good and it takes days, if not weeks to shake it. But this story had a good ending and what a GREAT MOUNT that is !!!
