I picked up a Super 14 35 Rem Tender today. My delima is what kinda optics to go with so I ask my HGH brothers. What kinda opitics would you go with on a 35 Rem? Im thinking of keeping it within 50/75 yder even though I could stretch it out in the right conditions. It will be the one that climbs the tree with me.

I would consider not putting any glass on your 35. I have a 45-70 contender with a scope and one without a scope and prefer to hunt with my iron sights in the heavy cover. I have missed more with a scope up close. When I say close I mean less than 2O yards. My best buck was shot at 17 steps with a 45-70 tender with iron sight. I am not a fan of scopes on a handgun even though I have several with scopes. I have just missed too many up close. The optics definitely make you more consistent though. I always battle hunting with the scope or not. I usually decide when I am leaving the truck at the last minute. Descisions Descisions. The one constant is I love to handgun hunt and never regret leaving the rifle at home.

If yer not gonna stretch a hundred yards much you might consider a MatchDot.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

A 2-6X Bushy ot 2-7X Burris would be perfect IMO....but the last time I hunted with my .35 Rem, it was carrying a Burris 3-12X.

I like the variables as you have low end for up close and more power when needed. My .35s are scoped and I carry an open sighted .45 for the close stuff.A dot would be a very good option also.

The 35 Rem is effective at much further distances than 50-75 yds. The locations where you hunt may dictate the short distances. Where I live & also where I hunt, 50-75 yds is a very close shot. Therefore, in my situation I would prefer a fixed 4X on it. However, I have moved toward putting leupold 4Xs on virtually all of my hunting handguns (revolvers & single shots). The sight picture is always the same and estimation of distance is easier for me regardless of which one I have in my hand.
It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

The reason I say 50-75yrds is because I have others that will pick up from there. Its a way of me to justify buying this 35 Rem not too mention I got it at a good price.

We have already admitted that we have a problem, isn’t that the first step?

The T/C .35 Rem is great...Mine wears a 2.5 x 7 T/C scope and have never had any trouble up close or 100yds in the oak woods.

my 35 rem wears a redfield 4x, it has accounted for most of the whitetails i have shot in the last 20+ years, been watching for a leupy 4x for my other barrels. I need to glass up an encore 30-06, i think that will get a 4x also.
