I had my heart set on a new Encore but then ran accross this gun called a Savage Sritker. It has like a mid style grip in .270 with a muzzle break on it and a 4 pwr Burris scope.
I know nothing about this gun. How does it compare to the TC encore does Savage still make it. I just want a whitetail hunting rig!

Before I answer, I have a question. Is it chambered in .270? That would indicate a .270 Winchester, which Savage never made in a Striker. I'm guessing it is chambered in .260 Remington.

And...no...I do not believe Savage makes the Striker anymore. For an all-around hunting rig, I like the T/C set up better. The Strikers are bulky and long, not really suited for still hunting and better as a stand gun. I only bring mine out of shots are going to be possible beyond 250yds.

I like mine........ALOT. It's my favorite antelope gun, but it works on deer too.

I have a Striker.
They are bulkier than Contender, but they can handle cartridges with higher pressure than the Contender or Encore.
Depends on how you like to hunt and the amount of weight you are willing to carry.
It is chambered in 270 WSM, which is foolish in my opinion, given that by the time you subtract the length of the brake you only have about 12.5 inches of actual barrel length. That cartridge needs at least 15" of actual barrel length.

Ah-ha....I forgot about the WSM that they chambered for! I also agree with Ernie regarding his opinion on it's usefulness in such a short barrel.
