Can someone that owns a SBH Hunter measure what the barrel length would be if you were to cut it off right before the 2nd scope mount position? So length from cylinder to just before the second scope mount is what Im after.

Thanks,

WHY? That does not make sense at all. You already have a scope on the gun so why do you need a short barrel?

Thanks Whitworth!

430- Honestly, I bought the gun because its a .45 LC. I've sold off all my other cals and replaced them with .45 LC's. I needed a Stainless Super with the Hunter full size grip and rounded trigger guard, and non scaloped cylinder to complete my ideal collection, (well, maybe a 454 SRH Alaskan too). I have other Ruger .45s that are scoped, as well as a Reeder 6.5" G2 and 8" MGM Encore, both scoped, in .45 LC. I like the short barrels and think the extra weight of the Hunter will point & balance nice at 4". Its up at Magnaport now.

The ejector rod housing extends well beyond the second crescent. Are you going to alter the ERH or do away with it entirely?

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Yup -- here's a photo of my Bisley Hunter and you can see where the ERH extends.

Because he can… LOL

Look at my TC collection and ask why I have so many barrels and different configurations. Because I can.

I am just going to take a stab in the dark, but I think it would be cool to shorten the barrel and then put a red dot, or some sort of sighing apparatus, on the front of it. It would make a handy little “short gun.”

The ejector rod will be cutdown as well. I will request Magnaport to use a S&W DX front sight base (interchangable blades). I have a Lipseys flattop .45 that is getting finished up at Magnaport now, with all the mods mentioned above (cut to 3.75"). Its getting valvet hone finish and Super BH hammer as well. Will post a pic when I get it back.

Cool...

Now you have the wheels turning...
I had thought about having rod make my 45lc sbhh into a 454, but funds, and other things have that on hold right now.(tax season sucks!!!)

Now I'm thinkin it would look awesome to cut off the barrel to the same lenth as the ejector rod housing...
Then you would have a sbhh with about a 6 inch barrel with the scope mounting system still very useable...

A 454casull sbhh with a six inch barrel...drool...

Oh, sorry to threadjack. Just thinking with my keyboard.

Can't wait to see your gun!! I like the shorty barrels also!

Have you seen Hamilton Bowens version of the SBH Hunter? He cuts the barrel at 5.5" even with the ejector rod housing.
I really like the looks of that Ruger SRH Alaskan, I was thinking the Hunter has that flat top barrel and if cut short enough it would have a similar look. I think my .45 SBH Hunter might traded. I will post pics next week if the deal goes threw:)

Just a thought, but if you cut the barrel down to flush with the ERH you might be very limited in what you can use as far as a scope goes. You don't want the objective to extend beyond the muzzle as it will get blasted with hot gas every time you fire.
