I am just getting my neighbor started in reloading & we will be loading for his Taurus Judge. I have never loaded the .45 Colt before.
I am figuring on starting with the Hornady 250 gr XTP. What is a good powder for the Colt loads? Do you think this cartridge needs a magnum primer?

Do you think this cartridge needs a magnum primer? Hahaha ;-) A Winchester Large Pistol primer will work fine with 25-28 grains of H110. For light loads I like 10 grains of HS-6.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

You don't do +P's in any gun? My Bisley Hunter loves the Corbon hunter 300 gr soft point +P's. They are accurate in my gun.

The Judge requires standard pressure loads, NOT P+ loads. I NEVER shot P+ rounds in my Judge.
I would try Unique or Power Pistol with the 250 XTP in standard pressure rounds. Unique is a little dirty compared to Power Pistol.
I only shoot 45 Colt P+ rounds in my Ruger Redhawk and Winchester 94 Trapper.
