When shooting silhouettes, I always used the Hornady 154 gr. spire point in my 7mm-08, 7 mm TC/U's, and 7mm/308 with complete satisfaction. When I hunt using a 7mm-08, I use a 139 gr. Hornady spire point.

Yes, the 154 gr is great for steel in the 7R.
Try 18.5 gr of SR 4759 for 1633 fps from a 10" barrel. It is deadly.
For deer use the 120 gr SSP bullet with 34.5 gr of Varget---YES, YES, Varget. Only powder I found that will shoot the light bullet. The 7BR shoots it super with 154 gr but if you try a 175 gr in it, 322 is better. 5 shots in 3/8" at 100.

Darrel, Is that 28 to 30gn of RL12 or H335? I recently picked up a 7mmIR 14" barrel for my Contender and have just started working up loads for it.

If anyone has some other good loads for this Cal. I am all ears. I'm not finding a lot of info out there for the 7mmIR so I can use all the help I can Get. This will mainly be a hunting pistol so 120 to 130gn bullets is what I will use most I also cast 135gn soupcan bullets for 7mm and am open to suggestions for that also.

Thanks in advance.

Randy, The Birddog.

Folks,

I've notified Gary about "moser." I think we've been spammed!

I had a 14" contender barrel years ago --if I recall I used 120gr BT's and H4895

Very long neck on that case

should do much betterthan the 7-30 with large long bullets if you have enough twist

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Cool, I have H4895 in the powder bin. May I ask a starting point.

Darrel, I'm not trying to hijack your thread but was going to ask the same question and saw your thread and did not see a reason to ask the same in a different thread. Much appreciated.

I've used it a number of times to take deer in excess of 200 yards and I used it to take my largest buck, a 230 lb. 10 pt. Now when I used it I was using a 130 gr. Hornady spire hollow point that was designed for a 7mag but they don't make that bullet any more so you'll have to pick a different bullet but the cartridge is very capable.
