My Encore pistol frame has been collecting dust lately, and I have been kicking around the idea of buying a 14-17 heavy or bull barrel to shoot a local 200 yard benchrest league. There are only a couple of guys shooting in it, and they are all using rifles, more fun than competition, so Im thinking buy a barrel & forearm and head out there. What are the best shooting barrels you have owned at 200 yards, and do you have a pics to share? I had 223 dies, but maybe 243 win, or 6.5, 7mm....???

If I was looking to do a BR match with an Encore--I think I would build an 8-9 twist .243 about 15 7/8 with the brake full bull buy some Tonys wood and a large forearm. Get me a 3-12 burris buy some 100-105 Berger's or SMK's some H4831SC or RL22
and make the rifle shooters feel real bad.

I shot this group with a clunky old 35 cal Encore

This is what one will do @ 400 (376 measured)

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Thanks for posting, those are some really great groups! Im gonna give this benchrest league a try with an Encore pistol. I tracked down a used 3x12 Burris, now I need to decide on a barrel. Im still thinking 223 as I have brass and dies already. Any thoughts on twists? I had a 26" Rem 700 with a 1:8 twist, I did great with 77 & 80 grs. Im not sure how that would work out with a 16 or 17" barrel?

Probably a 1-14 twist and use the short-range BR bullets.
