I don't often use a hard side case when just jockying to and from the range or when going hunting. I buy the soft sided cases...one Hunter case that I carry an assembled Contender (they can be around $50) in then the cheapo $5/each cases for extra barrels. They cheapies are well padded and get the job done. I just pile them all in a plastic tote and stick that in the car or truck.
If you are flying that is an entirely different story.......

I bought the Mil-tech soft case from Midway. It has a pccket sewed on the inside to seperate another barrel from the gun. It unzips completely and lays flat for a gun rug. The case is well padded and was only $16.99. Here is the link; Mil-Tech

Use MTM (I think thats it) accessory case. Allows for two layers, separated by thick foam. About 4-5 complete contenders or one plus many barrels. LT

Rod, I use a Pelican case that I bought from a dive shop. It is large for what I think you are looking for, but they come in smaller sizes. I have to say that this case is much nicer than any hard gun case that I have seen. It even floats! Now that might not seem like a big deal to some, but around here it has been raining steadily for the better part of three years and you never know when you might need a floatation device!

If you know anyone who works at a hospital, there are usaully some old hard cases for med. equip. laying around. Talk to someone in charge of inventory/storage and usually they have excess of these kinds of hard cases. I have aquired 2 this way and both are internally padded and lockable.

I bought a hard sided tool case (metal) on sale at Home Depot for $19. Padded it with 2 layers of dense foam of different depth. Cut our the profile of the barrel/scope in the thinner piece.Holds frame and 2 barrels. Before that I used a hard sided plastic attache case for one gun. Just right for that "going to the office" look.

When we lived in Alexandria, VA I used a small suitcase that had wheels and an extendable handle. Lined it with foam and it worked great. Especially for getting guns into and out of the highrise appartment building we lived in...no one ever knew they were riding the elevator with goofy ol'me toting at least five handguns at one time.

What a timely question....I just got a new case from my wife for Valentine's Day. Mine came from Cabela's. It holds a complete scoped rig and two scoped barrels. I think they go for about $30. - KyleL
