For those of you that have owner S&W .22lr revolvers, what kind of groups are you getting? pretty pricey for a .22lr, just trying to justify spending the cash.

240, I tried to locate some of my targets from my m-17 without any luck, however, I believe with the right ammo, from a rest, a 1" group at 25 yards was possible with my older 6" K-22. My gun is a very good shooter...

617 is absolutely worth it. or a 17... I have never bench rested but around 2.5" at 25 yards is typical. Seems to like bricks of 36 grain Federal bulk the best. For revolver shooters, there is no cheaper&better practice than a K frame. You'll save money in the long run.

never had a smith 22 but I've owned them in 38, 357, 41, 44, 460, 500 and even an old model 39(?) auto in 9mm and every single smith I've owned has been a tack driver out of the box. If the N frame had the strength of the Rugers I'd never own another Ruger. I'd be stocked to the gills with S&W as their quality control is better and the last time I dealt with their customer service it was also superior.

I've owned both 17's and a 617. Both 17's shot well (3/4" to 1" for 6 shots indoors @ 50' to eliminate sun and wind variables), but in truth, my Single Sixes shot / shoot just as well. My 617 was not as accurate, but the next one you find might be superb.
I like 6" 17's in particular, but frankly the only reason I would own another is for double action work. If only shooting single action, I'd not want to pay the price vs a Single Six for equivalent accuracy.

I have both the 617 in 4" and a Single Six 6"(I believe). I have both scoped with Leupold 2x scopes. They are both highly accurate. I shoot them while letting the big bores cool down to give my hand a break. I use value packs of Remmington and Blaser stuff from Wally World. I was getting 2.5 to 3" groups with the single six at 50' the other day. The 617 will do that or maybe a HAIR better. Wish I would have gotten the 6" 617. They are both great.....My single six shoots equally as accurate with the 22 lr or 22 mag cylinder....got lucky I guess.
PS I did get the Belt Mountain base pin for the single six....well worth the $$$$

I was looking at the 4" as well to balance like my 686 4". Sounds like I might have to pick up a 617. My single six is scoped and I was looking for non scoped gun for plinking thats faster to load than a single action. I just can't warm up to semi's anymore.

I have never had a single six shoot as well as my 617. Mine is a 6 inch and compliments my 6 inch 686 very well. Mine has always shot the best with win super X hollow points. They are great to practice with if you like any 6 series smiths.

The 617 is a very good gun. I got it to compliment my 686 as well. Good luck.

My scoped 17 will do sub 1" at 50 with std ammo and sub 3/4" with Club Dlx High $$ ammo
I have 2 17's now and have owned a total of 4 very nice guns
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.
