Well, we are all familiar with our resident gunsmith. But I just wanted to write about my experience with Dixie Firearms. I sent Rod my 45 Bisley hunter and my 20 year old contender for a little custom work. Rod posted the pics of the targets on the bragging board. I just spent some time with them at the range yesterday. Sorry, for some reason I cant get the picture from my phone to my computer. When I do, I will post the target pictures. To start, I placed my new 223 barrel on the contender and it is topped with my old TC 2.5x7 scope. At 100 yards she did a 1/2 inch group using Hornady 55 Zombie ammo I picked up at wally world. First 223 barrel I ever owned. Rod did a trigger job on this for me and it is night and day to what it was.
Next was the 45 Bis. Rod did a write up on what was done also in the bragging board. With cor bon factory 300gr+Ps, it did a 1 inch group at 50 yards. The trigger again is phenominal compared to what it was. I am very pleased with the work he did. Thanks agai Rod. Its like having 2 new guns.

That sounds awesome!

Try sending the pics from your phone to a home e-mail address and from there download them.

It is nice when your gunsmith actually cares about his work and goes out of his way to make things right the first time... a very rare oddity these days IMHO...

Oh, I should mention that Rod had a couple of my barrels.

My timing could have been better because I sent them to him right before he had a family emergency and had his hands full… LOL However, the wait was more than worth it. He cut down a 26in SS Custom Shop Encore barrel down to 17.5in. I took it out the morning of the day I broke my leg and it shot AWESOME with 4895 and a 250gr Sierra GameKing having three shots touching at 100 yards… The other miscreant was a 20in SS katahdin barrel cut down to 16in and added his muzzle tamer on it (OAL 17.5in.) I am not done tweaking the load but it did almost as well as the 375 JDJ barrel. One morning out and both the barrels were shooting quite well. No doubt a reflection of Mr. Rods craftsmanship!

Another cool feature was the stain finish he put on both of my SS barrels. It just really adds a touch of class to the work.

Don't push it to fast TC. You don't want to make things worse. And that could mean more bed time. In time you will look back and realize this was just another bump in a very long road.

I absolutely agree -- don't rush the healing process!

I haven’t been on my feet, at all. I want to be casting and reloading right now like you wouldn’t beleave!

When I was in the hospital the head nurse for the Doc said he has some land about 10 min away from where I live that he needed to have some pigs eradicated off of. Trust me, it will all come together in due time… LOL So as soon as I get cleared Toby and I are going Pig hunting!!

308 or 338? 308 or 338??? Hmmmmm

None of the above until you heal up!

I had my second surgery last Tuesday and it was like starting over from scratch. They put a metal rod down my tibia by going around/underneath my knee cap. I had all the hardware taken off and I am currently wearing the standard black boot. My leg is currently in a non-wait bearing status and I go see the Doc next week. Life is good and a lot of progress has been made, just adding a lot of sugar to the lemonade right now if you know what I mean…

Otherwise life is good! My wife has done a very good job keeping me in line, but she has had her hands full. Hahahahahahahahahahah!!!!

It is amazing how much you appreciate what you have when you have the opportunity to sit back and look at what you have! WOW I have been blessed with a wonderful family and gun collection most would drool over. I can honestly say I don’t “need” anything…

Tex just be sure when everything gets back to "normal" you take them all out for an appreciation meal.It can be as much a chore taking care of the injured as being the injured.Glad to see you spirits up and going, and easy on the "sugar".

Well it's sure good to hear from you TCTex on your medical status; you didn't even touch on it in your PM to me today, buddy. I have been wondering about you and how you are doing. And keeping the prayers going.

I am very glad to hear that you are are doing well plus feeling well enough to want to get out and about and start loading and shooting...etc.

I do know the feeling.

And fortunately for me, when the timing was right, my sweet wife Karen hauled me to a local indoor shooting range (it was still winter here in Colorado)...(well sorta local...in Denver) and I was able to partially satiate some of my shooting addiction by firing my Kimber 1911 that I had just outfitted with Crimson Trace laser grips; while I was still on crutches. I even brought my wheelchair, and it was kinda neat but at the same time embarassing to see all the shooters there come and help me with my shooting bags and etc! I even brought along a couple of .22 pistols.

Keep healing good, brother, and we will all keep in touch!

Best,

Gregg

No reason to be embarrassed you would have done the same for anyone who'd been in your situation. There are alot of activities where the people around you wouldn't have lifted a finger to help others partticipating.

Hey TC, are you doing a ton of reading on reloading? We should hire you in your down time to research load data for the forum. LOL!
