I just bought a 357 Max barrel. What primers do you suggest? One book said small rifle primers and another said small pistol primers. Do you recommend shooting 38's and 357 mags out of this barrel?

No, but it won't hurt the barrel. The accuracy may be less than ideal, and more to clean. If you are loading, just load lighter with Max brass for plinking.

Small rifle primer, I use Fed 205.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I use small rifle primers, CCI and Fed, in my 357 Max. In the Super Mags, 357-414-445, the standard respected pistol primers are NOT recommended.

Eg, I use Large Rife primers in my 414 and 445...

I use Remington 7 1/2 primers in my 357 Max.

I tried both 38 Special and 357 Mag. rounds in my barrel, but accuracy was terrible at 35 yards.

Thank you all for the information. You guys are helpful.

Heading to the range to test out the barrel and new loads!
