Ok guy's i have come to conclusion that i'll be broke before to long if i continue trying to master the basics with my .44 Red Hawk. Soooooooooooo i'll be digging out some of my .22's to burn some ammo up with at the range. I was feeling kinda funny about shooting them and not my .44 as somehow i wouldn't be accurate with the .44 (yeah,dumb i know) anyway i was just wondering what the general consensus is on range practice. When shooting your .22's (iron sights) do you just stick with close range work say 10 yards? or split it up 10, 20, 30?

I shoot 'em at all ranges, and from any position I might find in the field. I prefer steel targets of various sizes at various ranges, instant feedback and fun for all.

"I" say anything under 50 is absolutely fair game with a 22. I do practice out to 75 & 100 because I think it helps me shoot at all the other ranges. JMHO...

Don't worry about the 22. That was a great move you made be taking it out. Trigger time is trigger time!

I'm the same way as TCTex. I shoot at 50+ yards with my Ruger MKIII all the time for practice, but my hunting shots on small game are self limited to no more than 50 yards.

When big game season rolls around, it is a pretty easy transfer to the larger calibers. Its the same mechanics to make the gun go off, just a bigger boom at the end of the process!

I shoot from 25 and up depending on the size of the targets.

I shoot my single six at any distance I shoot my blackhawk for sure! The lil deuce deuce may feel puny but it is building the muscle memory you need for the .44, get out there and play!

Regardless of the caliber, the mechanics are all the same until the powder lights off. By then it is too late to change things anyway.

.22 practice will definitely pay dividends when you switch to the big boomers.

Shoot out as far as you care to. Keep working on your groups and when you can hit accurately, move out a little further.

Trigger time is trigger time! Practice with 22s WILL make you a better shot with your big guns(if your not flinching).

With ammo costs, I like to practice with my S&W 422 a lot. Of course the grip, and trigger are way different than my bigger guns, so to make up for this I like to do a lot of dry firing. Do not underestimate the value of dry fire!!!

That why i bought a dan wesson 22 same size and weight as my most of my wheel guns, good cheap practice!

Shoot 25yards and up. I go out to 200 yard steel with Ruger 22/45 and SW617. If you really seek improvement, start recording shooting conditions (wind, temp, gun, ammo, sights) and group size. Airguns and .22's are the best outstanding accuracy trainers. As a matter of fact, I'm outta here. Got to do some chronoing and then I'll burn through a brick of .22's.
