Just got back from a nice range session, followed by a trip to the gun show. At the gun show, I managed to trade a polymer semi-auto that I had no use for (nice gun, though) for a 7.5" SS .44 mag Redhawk, not Super Redhawk. Used, with a little nick in the frontsight and a little sooty. Action is OK, gun locks up OK and I'm thinking of putting new grips and front sight on. Are the .44 mag Redhawks good guns or did I make a bad deal here? Thanks, Roman

Any piece of plastic traded for a Ruger wheelgun is a good deal.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

That's the truth, if ever it was said. The Redhawks are excellent handguns.

Alrighty, then.
Hope to give it a whirl tomorrow, to see how it shoots.
Thanks for the encouraging words.

My father-in-law has one...likes it very much. They are great guns and are built like tanks. Have fun!

i've had my 7 1/2" ss redhawk since around 1986. it was my first "deer gun" purchase. it is a great gun and mine is accurate with 21.0gr of 2400 with a 240gr xtp. it's is about the only load i've shot a whole lot of. i just havn't took time for much experimenting with it all these yrs.....i did not have too. the load will shoot under 2" groups at 50yrds with a 2x burris on top.

one thing about the redhawk, the factory grip really sucks imo. the revolver needs an aftermarket grip(for me). mine has a uncle mikes hard rubbr grip that is pretty good. i had a pachmayr gripper on it for yrs that was really too thin. otherwise the finger grips are good. i tried a hogue on it once, which look good, but the back strap shows, which does away with recoil cushoin imo.
find a grip you like....you have a great hunting gun imo.
