Any suggestions on a small center fire contender cartridge? I want something in a 10' tube for small game and plinking just to keep me shooting my contender in the off season. I was thinking 25-20WCF, 32-20 WCF, .30 carbine, or maybe .256 win mag. Basically I want something in between a .22 LR and a .357 mag excluding those two calibers. I know there is at least one opinion out there. Let me hear them!

The tcu cartridges are fun and accurate, then there is the hornet stuff, my favorite is the 223 which is also very accurate. Just a few others to think about.

218 Bee, once you have the brass you can load it for less than 22 mag from the store, and the brass lasts forever.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

My vote is for .223

If you reload, a 30 Herrett or a 7mm TCU... JMHO!!!

I picked these rounds because you don't have to load them to their full potential. You can load them at Silhouette vel and do fine...

I recommend and use a .22 Hornet. For plinking I load a 55gr cast.

nuclearweasle, If you happen to opt for the 223, I have a 10" blued 223 rem I'm willing to sell or trade. Drop me a PM if interested.

Or anyone else, for that matter.

327 Fed would be pretty cool as would a 300 Whisper (I'm a fan of that one).

I use a 223 works just fine. Also have 44 mag and 45LC they work also. The 223 is the easiest to shoot. Used a 30 carbine a long time ago wish I still had it. 223 is not hard to get ammo for and less expensive.

A .221 Fireball would be more efficient in that 10" barrel than the .223. JMHO

I was thinking something smallish too. And weird. I like shooting rounds my friends have never heard of. 25-20 WCF is looking the most interesting to me at the moment.

I love my 221 Fireball and that would be my first choice.

I also have a 218 Mashburn Bee that is an excellent shooter. Brass and dies would cost more.

I have a blackhawk convertible with a 9mm cylinder. Its a lot of fun for plinking and small game and reloading is cheap, abundant components and very little powder. If you dont reload its still about the cheapest centerfire ammo out there.
